I think the tdi engines are excellent engines and very reliable. The tensioner design is used on most modern engines. Fit good quality parts and observe with the engine running,the belt and tensioner should run smooth with no jumping about.

I thought that was the case,but they are cheap so was hoping they would be ok. Still only for a few more pounds I can buy one that is hardened.

Nope,my 300tdi has been very good. You must have had bad quality parts fitted. You have not said what has failed

Boost pin on ebay very cheap I email seller to ask if they are hardened,to which he reply no but they are made from stainless 303 which is very hard . Does any one know if that's the case.

I'am open to offers Ebay had two auctions for defender vin plates and log books list only a couple of weeks go. One made over £600 and the other was listed at a starting price of £450 and the listing was ended as the seller must have been offered a cash offer.

I think 7.50 16 and 235 85 16 tyres are about 31 to 32 inch's I can pull way from junctions in 2nd gear if I'm still just rolling. 235 85 16 or 265 75 16 would be no problem as the rolling radius are about the same A 90 would have no problems at all unless the engine has low power/problem

A used disco transfer box is a very cheap mod

It had the defender 1.4 transfer box and with the 7.50 16 tyres I thought the gearing would be ok but the engine sounded busy and I could pull way in second gear. The disco transfer box is 1.2 ratio
