back lash in the diffs is different to play on the prop. any play in the cv joints or prop shaft splines is a no no a bit of slack in the transmission isn't uncommon

as other has mentioned it should have no direct affect on the handbrake unless you have two issues tbox / gbox and (something from the hand break back). when towed the gear box output shaft will still be turning unless the tbox is in neutral also

mine was fitted down with riv nuts like the mudflap. I could screw down the panel then the cubby box had 6 bolts counter sunk a little bit from inside the cubby box into riv nuts fitted to the panel

i run 255x85 on my 300 and would say it perfect makes the gearing just that bit longer than standard without ditching performance i also ran 255x85s on a 1.2 tbox and was ok good for cruising but the stock defender gearing is better al round and towing.

as banks has said just replace the 5th gear been as your going for a rebuild will give you best of both worlds low gearing for pull away and towing and higher 5th for cruising

Yes +1 for Land rover toolbox videos just done all my swivels watched the videos and double checked torque settings with the workshop manual. replace swivel bearings with quality branded as you won't want to replace those after all the other work. Mine took a weekend with out really rushing...

in my 300 Shell V power - defiantly gives a bit more torque and responsiveness branded fuel - Shell / BP not noticed much difference smooth base line fuel Tesco / ASDA - There is a noticeable drop in power don't run this unless i have too.
