    what one

I quickly learnt... I bought a 1986 200 tdi. didnt really pay much for it so what do you expect but it turned out to be a heap of ****... everything that could leak did leak and everything that could break, broke. so swapped it for a 1999 td5, spent a bit more money on it but have never looked...

No heating... Manky coolant... Low engine temp...

Hi! As said above. I have no heating but can get cold air through the blowers. I checked my coolant and it's got some sludge in the cap and oil floating in the coolant and my temp gauge is showing just below half.. I'm guessing this is all linked and I'm going to flush the coolant in the...

    Hum coming from snorkel?

Hi Bought a defender in the last week, and when it gets above about 50mph a humming noise comes from the front right of the landy. It sounds like when you blow into a beer bottle and you get that resonating noise. Could this be my wheel bearing or snorkel? Im just guessing... Im slightly new...

    What MPG do you get?

My defender had a lying fuel gauge... Turned out that the last person to fit the sender put it in a few degrees out. So it would occasionally catch on the side of the tank and show false readings. Hope it helps. And I used to get 30 mpg in my 200 tdi

Drops of oil under clutch pedal

I had the same problem about a month ago. Placed an order for the two cylinders and the next day on my way to work I pressed the clutch down, a puddle appeared below my foot and I had no clutch... Im guessing it sucked in a load of air and decided to dump the fluid. but its all fixed now :)

Seats and seat belts and the law

I think if a vehicle is registered before 1986 and seat belts have never been fitted it is not required to fit any in the rear. If it was registered after there is only a requirement on stand alone seats. Thats why you dont need a seat belt on a bus... theyre mostly bench seats...

    Long distance in a defender

My D reg 90 had a recon 200tdi and ran beautifully. It was the gearbox, clutch, steering box, power steering pump that went. Oh and it caught on fire once. This is why I'm curious wether it was my bad luck or defenders are simply not meant for motorway driving

    Long distance in a defender

Great! Looks like it'll be a defender! My last one was a pain in the arse! It kept breaking down, even after replacing everything! But it is a 1986 model... Cheers guys

    Long distance in a defender

Hi all, I have just aquired a large apple orchard wig some very rough tracks. And I do alot of travelling. About 50 miles a day, mostly on motorways. I can only afford one vehicle so I need to know if a defender will be capable of the 50 miles a day at 60 mph. I have time for maintenance but...
