Do you have an earth lead as well? I am going to try mounting it on the roof rack and see if that helps but I may buy another lead another antenna and another SWR metre and see if I can find a faulty component.

I was in the middle of a field well away from buildings, trees etc. If possible I would like to keep it on the wing as it has a hole through it now. I will get a pic tomorrow but thought it was far enough forward to be ok.

How can it change the length of the antenna if there is no continuity between the antenna and the earth lead? Just curious not disagreeing, as I have said already new to this.

110 defender Wilson beehive mount Orbitor HD Antenna Unit is wired direct to battery. The lead seems ok, no continuity between the pin and the outer sheath. Mounted on top of front wing 2' in front of windscreen.

I took my wife's newish X5 wading in December, forgot it wasn't the Defender! She has the lovely BiTurbo, any way it ceased and £18.5k for a new engine. I felt a right tit and my wife was not overly happy. All sorted now with new engine, turbos, fuel rail, injectors etc etc etc and is spot on...

Sort the threads and locking nut, simple.

Holes are drilled for the wing now so that's where it will start, put it two feet in front of the windscreen as recommended so hopefully be ok. If it doesn't work it will get moved but have wired it in now with an additional earth strap to the chassis.

Bug Stomper, like it, trying to think of something amusing. Got it all fitted but decided to mount the antenna on the bonnet instead of the roof rack so am just waiting for the correct mount to arrive. It's all wired in just waiting for the mount then I will hopefully get it set up and get it...
