Add-on sleeping compartment for Defender CSW 110

Why "not a roof" tent? Boogers link would be spot on, as they are not traditional soft skinned tents/covers.

Disco 1 -1993 Lift it or cut the arches?

A camel cut was used on the 'camel' trophy Discoveries to fit bigger wheels/tyres. Bsaically you cut about an inch off the rear arch at the back of the wheel. Here's a photo of mine with 'no' lift. Had to trim the front valance and camel cut.

    300tdi Tappet Problem

This is driving me nuts. New springs are in, all the little caps have been replaced and tappets re-adjusted. Still sounds tappety:(

Brass Plug on top of thermostat.

I had a failure on the plastic plug and fortunately I was near B&Q who sold a brass one £1.80 :D But it never came with a washer although seems to be ok. Do people on here use a washer or not?

Just don’t know what to do – tyres

I have BFG ATs 31 10.50 15s on mine. Cannot fault them, and 'never' had a puncture (includes trip to Morocco). Remember that the BFs have a thicker sidewall (3 ply) And it says BFGs on the side of them :D

    water loss

Look for leaks when the engnes hot/pressurised. Could be a leak in the matrix. If so your carpets are likely to be wet....if so taste of anti-freeze will confirm (sometimes the window will mist inside the cab).

    Starting problems

Lots of clicking sounds like battery is it reading 12v with engine NOT running? Are the terminals on the battery clean and secure? Is the earth strap from the battery secured both ends and in good order?

    radiator fitting

No it won't **** out..... you will get some oil come out though. I cut the fingures off rubber gloves to cover the pipes when they came off and stop the oil running out.

    300tdi Tappet Problem

have recently had my 300tdi head skimmed and tappets adjusted. Motor had it's first long run today and I noticed it sounded more tappety. But I was told that they may need doing again once they have settled in. I took the rocker cover off to make sure everything was in situ....and it was not...

Disco or Defender for long term home?!!

IMHO the 300tdi is reliable and easy to fix if it goes wrong (no need for computers and fault codes). If you buy a disco the money you save by not buying the same age defender means you can buy a roof tent, and you won't need to sleep in it.:D You'll get a very nice 300tdi for 3 grand. But...

Disco or Defender for long term home?!!

I prefer the classic the look of the Defender over the Disco. But..... 1. The Defender is better offroad, but the Disco is more comfy and still well capable offroad. 2. I don't need to wear my reading glasses to see the satnav in my Disco, but do in the Defender as there is less cockpit...

    Morocco May/June 2011

I only have first hand experience of 2620 - 2610 Streetpilot 3 and 276c. All of those models can accept routes and cordinates from mapsource, and so can be planned on your computer prior to the trip. If you have an emergency those devices can tell you your exact position even in remote...

    Morocco May/June 2011

I feel for ya...I had planned on going as a group of three trucks and the others dropped out. Had to change my route over the atlas mountains and desert as was not a good idea to do original route as a solo vehicle...having said that the isolation was fantastic. Here are some figures I have...

    Morocco trip report

Good effort on the repairs. Those pistes sure work the wheels and suspension. It's worth keeping an eye on THE HUBB overland forum for updates on those pistes. The fellas normally give you a heads up on such problems. Might be worth putting your experience on there in order that others can...
