Solar Panels for expeditions / camping

It's a solid panel. I had a look at the flexy ones but couldn't warrant the dollar needed for the same performance.

Solar Panels for expeditions / camping

I have also wrestled with the figures in the past. But it depends on so many variables that I got bored. So here is what I am finding in the real world with my 80w set up. I run the following from a secondry battery in my Discovery. Car CD/Radio CB Engel 45 Ltr Fridge 2 x Permanently fitted...

Rip them out...then you aint got any room for passengers. But' lots of room to make things comfortable whilst camping etc and easy to get at :). You also have the benefit of having seats that fold right forward allowing even more space in the back for sleeping 'en route'. I have been looking...

    Trailer tent thingy...

That could work, but the sankey axel is likely to be be wider (the wheels will need bigger mud gaurds). You would also need to extend all of the legs, buy a bigger jockey wheel and consider the breaking system to the sankey axel. Might be easier to use the whole sankey chassis and axel.

The non elasticated strap between the two handles (bit like a rachet strap) stops it bouncing around and sagging. It's been there over two years now and survived many camping trips, to France Scotland and Morocco.

The net was bought in halfrauds. It has hooks on the side which are on the rear passenger handles and hooked to the trim (rear upper windows). For a little extra support there is a strap goes between the two rear grab handles. I got the 25mm aluminium angle off ebay. The carpet tiles I bought...

ADVENTURE OVERLAND SHOW, Northants, 6-7 October 2012

Hope the show goes well Tom. Not sure if I'm in the UK then, but if I am I shall certainly be there.

Solar Panels for expeditions / camping

Just ordered an 80w solar panel for camping. I'm hoping it will run the fridge and LED lighting without ruining the peace and quiet by flashing up the Discovery to recharge the batteries. Anyone else use them?

    Trailer Hire???

I have hired wood-chippers in the past about the same value. I had to pay a premium and LARGE deposit incase it went walkies and they often do. Even if you could hire one you wouldn't be able to let it out of your site for a moment without worrying about it disappearing (loose BIG deposit)...

Nice job. Like the idea of using the army underbed lockers as a baseplate, as they look very sturdy.

Mounting a roof tent on a Range Rover Classic?

For the additional cost. I'd get another bar. It will be more secure off-road. Give more support for the both of you and take a dodgy Moroccan longer to nick when you are wandering around the Medina :D Actually thats morre likely to happen in the UK or on route to Morocco....fact.

Things I need - any recommendations?

You could easily manufacture a sleeping platform in the back of the Rangie if you remove the back seats... and still have plenty room underneath for gear. Very handy too if you fancy a kip on the motorway.

Odd dilemma: RR Classic or RR Sport for trip to Morocco?

Take the one you have most confidence in. Just make sure it is 'well' serviced. You will be covering bumpy pistes and climbing some steep hills with all your gear on board. Any weaknes in you truck will soon be put to the test......Shocks and mounts, wheel bearings, exhaust and mounts, cooling...

UK expeditions?? Are they worht it? Or close alternatives??

Not much wrong with a Vitara. They would have benefitted from a solid front axel. The front shafts are prone to snapping if you dont know when to back off when off-roading. The rest of the motor is very reliable. I prefer the 8v engine to the 16v engine, which I have found to suffer from...

UK expeditions?? Are they worht it? Or close alternatives??

I could have got this all wrong of course but.... "Me and a friend are looking into doing an expedition" I wouldn't call green laning in the uk an expedition. "but seeing as the vehicles are older (93 & 96) I dont want to disappear too far away, also I would like to keep costs down at the...
