    Hot gearbox

In that case I would be worried. Are there any other symptoms, or is it just the heat build-up?

    HELP! Unidentified leak...

Ha, ha!!! Yeah, I had the same leak around 2 months ago. Realised I had no fluid in the washer reservoir so started filling it up, only to watch it pour out all over the floor!!! And how difficult is it to get to that joint behind the reservoir? Good job my girlfriend was a mechanic who is...

    HELP! Unidentified leak...

Thanks Charlotte, I was hoping it was the condensation from the exchanger but thought I'd better get some feedback from others before I dismissed it as being unworthy of panic!!! Given the temperature here today (+30c), coupled with the fact that this was the first time I've had the aircon...

    Hot gearbox

I would say this is NOT normal for a Tdi 90. I have owned mine for 20 months and 20000miles, yet I have had no such bother. Have you checked the fluid levels in both the gearbox and transferbox? It may be very worthwhile investing a little time and money in draining and renewing these fluids...

    HELP! Unidentified leak...

I have a 1996 V8i es Disco, just came home from a short run (around 18 miles) and have found a leak. It seems to be water (clear, though with a slight yellowish tinge, and with no smell) and is coming from a strange location. On the underside (inside) of the transmission tunnel, drivers side...

    Swivel housing fluid change?

I've got a 1996 V8i ES auto, which has started making quiet squealing noises every-so-often when cornering. I thought that I'd best check the swivel housing fluid levels but have come up against a problem. I can locate the filler plug, no problem, but can't find either the drain plug or the...

Does anyone have any experience of using a tirfor hand-winch?

Cheers Accy, Looks awesome, if pricy! Reckon I'm sticking to the high-lift for now, due to the fact that I've already got one, which means it costs nothing!!! Maybe next year when the funding improves... Chris

Top tip; I'll give it a go... Thanks Chris

Does anyone have any experience of using a tirfor hand-winch?

I want to stick it at the rear, to the side of the door, but I'm thinking that I might hang on 'til I get a ladder on the door and see if I can't rig up some kind of mount on that? If you don't mind could you let me know where you stick yours, or any probs you encounter on the way? It might...

Does anyone have any experience of using a tirfor hand-winch?

It is, if you have the workshop space, the tools and the means with which to bend them yourself. I personally do not and will be paying the £18 that'll let me carry my high-lift safely and securely on the back of my Disco. Though I do wish that it was cheaper. Actually, come to think of it, I...

Does anyone have any experience of using a tirfor hand-winch?

Thanks, that was the other option, which I think I'll go for 'cos I've already got a high-lift. Just need to find a bracket to mount it to the back of my Disco now... Chris

    LPG conversion

Hi all, I recently answered a post somewhere in the forum where a couple of people where asking about LPG conversions. As I have recently had my V8 disco converted I said I'd post up my verdicts once the run-in period, and subsequent tune-up were complete. Well, its done. Am I happy...

    Safari or Mantec Snorkel

Up the outside but into the intake (so they're sheltered). This is easy to do but make sure you do the crankcase, gearbox, both axles and the transfer box. Also, regardless of which intake you choose, you'll need to ensure you get a fully watertight seal all the way through to the filter by...

    cb radio

I would suggest mounting the unit on the transmission tunnel. This where my defender's cb unit is mounted and it causes no probs yet is easily in reach for channel changes etc. Have to admit that I don't have a unit in my disco, YET... Chris

    Rooftent insurance

I bought mine from Nene Overland, very good. Got the tent added to my car insurance so that it's all on the one policy, thats with NFU. Talk to your provider as they may be happy to simply up the total value of your vehicle to cover the tent, or to have it covered as a seperate item on the...

    Diff lock.

HA, HA!!! Done! A morning well spent, which has resulted in my diff lock working. Reckon I'll have to use it regularly to really free it up properly, and keep chucking the lubrication up in there, but looks like I'll be able to get up and down hills now (the REALLY steep ones!!!)... Thanks...

    Diff lock.

Stops me sliding around on shallow slopes whilst wearing my road-biased rubber!!! I'll get under the car tomorrow; despite having been bought primarily as a road going car (my D90 does the hard work!!!) the disco has been offroad already, and certainly will do again. Having all the toys...

    RR conversion experiences?

Latest news on my LPG conversion: The car is running beautifully and I have only 2 whinges; 1) the consumption still seems very high, around 11-12mpg compared with 15-16mpg on petrol, though I've yet to get the 1000mile tune up; 2) with the consumption as it is my range is severely limited, i'm...
