    Two cretinous questions

Yes, but the quicker you restart the less water and the attendant resistance you have to deal with and it does depend on your faith that the induction side really is water sealed!

    Two cretinous questions

In that case a quick restart would be prudent as you would be pushing water ingress through the exhaust away. But you would want to be confident that your snorkel side is really as sealed as you believed it to be.

    Two cretinous questions

    1. Yes, 2. I wouldn't if the motor normally idles OK in dry situations as the wet environment would appear to be the culprit, i.e. water ingress and so trying a restart may cause further damage.

Stuck in port in Turkey need urgent advise

Bogus call. Oil is basically oil and would have no effect. Overfilling might have caused your symptoms. If it has run clean for the mileage you say you should/may be in the clear.

    water going somewhere

Yes it is possible that you have a loose connection or a pinhole in a hose and that it expands under heat and pressure and that the water is hitting a hot part of the motor. Fill it up and run the motor with the bonnet up and observe for 15 minutes or so. Look at hoses for chaffing. has this...

    water going somewhere

Yes but how much water is it using over what timescale. Do you have to put a couple of litres in a day regardless of running the vehicle? Best to spell out the full symptoms of the water disappearing - time related? Mileage related? Both? This will me or others help you.

    water going somewhere

How much water? Is the motor pulling as normal? I'm in Turkey and the weather is still very hot, so I guess it is the same with you - water evaporates quickly so if it is a couple of litres per week then you may not see it and it could be a porous hose or loose clip which is obviously a better...

    Stupid idiots on eBay.

You can state 'no refunds' but the law does entitle the buyer to a refund regardless.

    Roll bar/hoop fitting...

I too would like to fit a simple roll bar to my 90. Nothing flash, just and internal hoop with brace if necessary. I have looked but failed to find anything other that external bars.

    Tow bar problems

I see now, I think. Many thanks for your time in taking that snap. As you and Pressbrake have said, I don't have the TD5 fuel tank and therefore don't have the cradle and brackets. Now I have to figure out if the TD5 110 version the brackets of which appear to bolt directly to the chassis will...

    Tow bar problems

Whoops, correction to previous post. Should read - 'Anyway, mine appears to have a TD5 [original said Tdi] crossmember and rear legs so a Td5 tow bracket should fit and so it should be for you

    Tow bar problems

Well Mark, according to Marsland today, they only put the TD5 crossmember on a 300Tdi chassis (why that would be the case I don't know) rather than you suggest take a whole TD5 chassis and alter the engine mounts to suit. Seems odd to me, why change the crossmember to a TD5 one if the rest of...

    Tow bar problems

Yes, that is as I understand it. I just want the 'N' type as I will only be pulling trailers. But it appears that the 'N' type loom comes in at least 2 different flavours, TDi and TD5. I know the square root of FA about electrics so don't know if there is a significant difference.

    Tow bar problems

Well it would appear that I have a Marsland , or similar, replacement galvanised TD5 chassis (modified engine mounts to accommodate 300Tdi lump). I contacted Marsland regarding them supplying an adapter plate which they can do but don't have modified brackets. I dare say I could cobble up such...

    Tow bar problems

Re Marks earlier post, I have looked at the Marsland site and the 90 chassis certainly looks like what I have. They make a point of saying that their chassis has anti roll bar mountings and mine does. Are these normally absent on a 300 Tdi chassis? They also say they can supply an adaptor plate...

    Tow bar problems

Thanks for your input Mark. Armed with what you say I hope that what I have is as you describe and not some hybrid or chimera. I am hoping to get further comment from Pressbrake, Shifty or one of the other experts on here. You mention Marsland offering some sort of adapter and I will follow that...

Those rust blemishes are splatters of zinc which I thought best not to remove.

    Tow bar problems

Thanks Pressbrake. So is the whole chassis TD5? I can see no obvious join along the length of the chassis. The motor is definitely a 300 Tdi. Of more immediate concern, can I fit a TD5 tow bracket?

    Tow bar problems

I have just received a Dixon Bate tow hitch for my 1995 Defender 300Tdi 90. This is the exact one Land Rover Defender Dixon & Bate Adjustable Tow Bar Kit | eBay Problem is, though it purports to be for a 300 Tdi it doesn't fit! The two brackets which are meant to attach to the chassis reach...
