Before I buy a new bearing assembly - some diagnosis please...

It does sound plausible ;) Wouldn't worry about the torque wrench. FT (fookin-tight) is good enough).

Ah, shame :( I changed the bearing on its own and it took 7 minutes including finding the small electrical screwdriver to remove the circlip. Simply pop the clip out press the bearing out then press new one in with lots of white grease shoved into the thing whilst you're there.

    Galvanised chassis for Discovery 1

There is a process of spray galving. I have done body panels for other vehicles in it before. Never tried the underside of a landy though. Something for a project defender in a few years.

Yeah just pay it then deal with it. Small claims will usually scare them coz they wont' want to send someone to your local court to fight the case!

5 door 50mm Flexi arches - GRP or Flatdog????

Either set are fine. You've got to be doing something a tad bad to break them. And if you do break them there will be other more important things to worry about that your plastic arches ;)

Local thieves stealing doors and bonnets

I usually recommend shear bolts that you can buy but they don't fit into the hinge (I've tried!). The next best thing as pressbrake says - drill the shape out of the screw so they can't get an allen key or screwdriver to fit. OR weld the holes up but then this normally looks messy.

Power take off. So the power is taken from the engine normally off the gearbox. Similar thing to tractor machinery. Driven off the back.
