    bonnet strength for spare wheel

Mines got a bit of chequer plate on it and it and has lasted fine for 1000's of km of the worst corrugations. To be honest though 25,000km plus on non tarred roads in Africa in 9 months without a puncture I question the point of the second spare. Buy 5 new BFG's and you're good to go.

    which battery is best?

You need your secondary battery to be a deep cycle sometimes called leisure battery and your primary to be high cycle - it's high something but I can't remember. I have terrible insomnia from lack of drink! Neither of them like doing what the other does. Your high jobby if run down below...

    Edinburgh to Uganda

You personally offended Sudan or you think you can't because of political reasons? I'm writing this from the Al Salam Rotana hotel in Khartoum, Sudan. it took me 36 hours and $100 to get my visa and it's no problem at all - as long as you get a Transit visa from Cairo or Addis. It is for 14...

    Edinburgh to Uganda

I'm in Ethiopia now having come from Uganda. The road from Isiolo (280km N Nairobi) to Moyale (Kenya/Ethiopia border) is a bitch. It's 500km and at least 14 hours of driving although they are tarring some of it. Coincidently about half way between Moyale and Addis on Thursday we came across...

    African Visa Charges

Ethiopia does now recognise carnets and we weren't asked to list electrical stuff at customs as we'd been told we'd have to. Quick and painless 20 minutes all told - but don't even think about entering without the visa already in your passport. As you cross the bridge from Kenya at Moyale it...

On winches and bullbars and others..

40l and all of it - we could only do NE to W gate and not all the way to the S gate as it's there's no fuel for 100km of sand when you get out. On compressors - I have a slow crap but reliable 40L p/m job that was nice and cheap. Sure it takes a bit longer but gives you time for a beer or...

On winches and bullbars and others..

Someone asked me a question about actually driving on African roads vis a vis some equipment, I thought other people might be interested too, The key thing to remember about a winch and can be applied to lots of other bits of equipment (airjacks, etc) is that you're not doing this to go...
