I think you are confusing Extended mode with Off-Road mode, which can be driver-selected. The full Air Suspension and Terrain Response section is attached which explains it all. Pete

As I guessed........ from the owners handbook for L322 2007MY:- "Extended mode is activated automatically and cannot be selected manually". Pete

Check the handbook but I'm guessing that's the correct operation. Doesn't it only go into extended mode when it's bellied out, i.e. as an 'emergency' mode? Pete

Are the plug leads connected correctly, and is the distributor timing definitely set right? (Just trying to elimiate the simple things first). Pete

I'm no lawyer but I think you should at least write to them to document the sequence of events and faults now, before too many more people get their hands on the car. In fact Citizens Advice or Solicitor would be a good idea ASAP as this could get messy and expensive! Good luck! Pete

On the Freelander 2 there is a common problem with the quality of the earth strap which causes the same fault on startup when the weather is cold (HDC fault, and also slow cranking), and the fix is a new earth cable connecting directly from the starter motor/engine/gearbox to the battery...

Don't forget you can buy refurb kits off Ebay for <£25 which replace the brushes, regulator, rectifier, and bearings i.e. just about everything apart from the coils. Not at all hard to do as long as you have a decent soldering iron (£7). Pete

I had a leak from the input shaft on my 1988 RRC's steering box and fitted one of Aztec's replacement seals which re-engineers the seal to have o-rings running against a different part of the shaft from standard. Expensive but it worked a treat and was easy to fit. No affiliation, just a happy...

Try running it without the filler cap on.... There may have been a vacuum buildup stopping the fuel flow. Pete

I didn't want to grind the nuts and bolt heads off and then find I couldn't get the remains of the bolts out! Pete

Mine's a 1988 and I lifted the boot floor by knocking the heads off the rivets. Couldn't drop the tank because the tow bar stays are in the way and there is no way the tow bar assembly would come off. Pete
