Or just wedge the flap open to test the feed to the fuel relay. The flap switch can fail and on some cars (including mine) the switch in the air flow meter is wired permanently on. Pete

The flapper is moved by the airflow created when the engine is cranked and this closes a circuit which then activates the pump relay. I am not sure to what extent the attached files overlap with what Saint.V8 has sent you, but they may help. Pete

My 1988 3.5EFI uses the ERC9127. One source is SENSOR ASSY [ERC9127] - £399.62 : RJS Land Rover Spare Parts, Specialist suppliers of Land Rover parts for all Land Rover Vehicles but I dont know if they have it in stock. Not cheap at £400+VAT but other places have it listed at twice that! Or...

Yes that's right. So it would be the flapper system. No Tune Select Resistor because that came with the later hotwire airflow sensor. Pete

The tune resistor wasn't added to the hotwire system till 1990. Hotwire was introduced late 1988/1989 (my 1988 Classic is a flapper). Pete

I started coming on this forum about 5 years ago for the RRC content (which was at least 50% then). I have a knackered SORNd RRC which has waited forlornly for attention for far too long. Now RRC content is relatively sparse and L322s seems to be taking over from P38s. But I still come on...

I seem to recall that some cars need some sort of pressurised filling system e.g by having a raised vessel to feed the water into the system and thereby forcing any air out of the coiling system as it fills I have no idea whether this would be feasible or practicable on the L322 but it may be...

My first thought was alternator bearings or brushes, but that doesn't necessarily fit in with the noise stopping when you move off (or increase revs above idle?). The alternator on my Classic made terrible noises and it turned out to be shorted field windings - see my thread...
