    many thanks for the quick reply. replaced both ujs. pulled the splined end out to check for damage/ wear but forgot to mark where it came from. done them before but always marked em up. just forgot to do so this time.(must be an age thing:D) ron.

    no need to over egg the pudding.i personaly would weld the underside too just to make it look a bit neater. but seam sealer and underseal will be fine, considering that's your first go at welding may I say.WELL DONE. don't look bad at all. ron.

    just got back from sunny Norfolk so been unable to reply. took engine out today and will up date on it further tomorrow, many thanks for the replies and suggestions. have bought a new spigot bearing and will replace as a matter of course. ron.

    ours is a standard 300 tdi pulled our very large eldiss tin tent to lake district ,all round Yorkshire. down south etc etc never have a problem with power.as already said. if you have large tyres and been buggering about with the pump, put it back to standard and see what difference it makes...
