not sure LR should ever use this as a marketing campaign

'please don't copy this - it's copyright'! Brilliant. What a wonderful laid-back attitude - love it.

    Dizzy question

This is probably a really silly question, so please be kind. I got my SIII 2.286 petrol (1974) back from the repair garage last week, after 8 months without it. It seemed to run a bit reluctantly: it started easily, but wouldn't run without choke and the revs went down when I stopped at...

Series 2 Miss at high speed 2.25 petrol:

Well, the old wisdom said, replace one thing at a time and test that. (Not meaning to be unhelpful)

    How did this happen......

I've just had a blitz on my carry-around tool box. Took out about 10lb of AF spanners. Still carrying metric and whitworth, plus BA and some other oddities, but at least I can lift it now!

"ALL agree that 1974 was the best year for the series" hear hear! (Now tax exempt too!!!) :)

    Beach Use washdown advice needed

If it was me, I'd try and speak to the nearest lifeboat station that launches off the beach. They hose down the tractor and trailer after a launch, but do they do anything else?

What tools do you never leave without on an outing with your series??

An axe, a saw and a big 'ommer, all hidden behind the seats. I do use the saw, never used the axe, but I have nowhere else to keep it. In the back, trolley jack, its handle and a four foot extension tube. Under the seat, wheelbrace and another couple of jacks. I am a bit of a pessimist by...

    quest tonight 9pm landy content

I managed to watch it eventually. He started off by saying he's only ever gone for fast cars, and seemed to warm to the 'Defender' as he went on. Good publicity for Landies (or 'Defenders' as he kept reminding us - that must be why people call my Series III a Defender...). He's certainly...

Halfords Oil & First time Oil Change on a Landy

Whatever you do you will get oil everywhere. Top tip is to lay a large sheet of cardboard or something disposable under the engine before you start. The sump is easy enough but the oil from the filter splashes everywhere. Also you will need more than one can of oil - about ten pints from...

Trying to change to Historic Vehicle

Well, good news (thanks James May). Got a letter from DVLA today, confirming 'receipt of your application to tax your vehicle in the historic category.' They say they can't change it till 1 April, but 'the complete application will be held until that date, at which point the taxation class...

    Sealant on radiator hose joints?

I use washing up liquid for a lubricant (oo-er missus), but I thought the original question was about sealing? If you have trouble fitting new rubber or plastic hoses, try putting the end in a cup of hot water for a minute. But the softening effect lasts a very short time if the weather is cold!

    Sealant on radiator hose joints?

If you're fitting new hoses, best to re-check the hose clips for tightness after a week or so. They seem to need nipping up a bit as they bed in.

Trying to change to Historic Vehicle

I have now sent the V5C with V70 (change of taxation class) with the MoT to Swansea. I think if I wait till after 1 April our Post Office will still refuse to help, and I shall have paid another month's tax. It seems so odd that I have to send the MoT when DVLA have it on their computer as...

Trying to change to Historic Vehicle

This is how helpful the dvla are. I got this the day after I stopped the DD for tax from April 1. The vehicle is of course still taxed till 31/3. "Vehicle Registration Number: XYX182N Your bank has told us to cancel your Direct Debit instruction as your bank or building society has cancelled...

Trying to change to Historic Vehicle

Well, along with many of you, I have a 1974 Series III. Have been looking forward to going tax-free next month. When I rang DVLA he said I had to get it changed in a Post Office, so today I set off, full of plumptiousness. 'I want to change the Tax Class to Historic Vehicle; have you got the...
