    Quick electrical diagnosis

Probably irrelevant but I once had my lights go randomly off and on. Didn't check the horn. Turned out to be the cable which ran along the top of the chassis, and had been rubbed through by the steering rod. Only noticed because it was dark!

Just bought my first Landy, 1980 series 3

A good looking unspoiled landy - congratulations. One big advantage you will find - you never lose it on a carpark!

My electrics are worse than your electrics.............!

Well you could pull that dead leaf out, write it on the 'to-do' list, tick it off, then you deserve that brew. :)

Series 3 Just bought this, and may need some advice in the near future

Looks a good buy. Well done. I love those rear door hinges. :)

    FRONT WHEEL ANGLES

You can indeed. The rod has a left-hand thread one end and a rh thread the other end, for just that reason. However, mind you don't just make them much worse! I always find that gazing at my landrover is a bad idea - there's always something that doesn't look quite right, and, just a little...

    The 110.

The army certainly made sure the tyre pressures would be right!

Interesting day at Gaydon Motor Museum.

"Old vehicles are likely to have had things done to them over the years, especially Land Rovers. Nobody will really be able to answer these questions, so why worry about it?" Well, because next April, 1975 vehicles will become tax exempt?

    WD'z which one?

I'd feel happier if I didn't see Ed putting back the rusty old fastenings, spot areas of rust which he doesn't mention, never mentions whether he does oil and filter change, doesn't check gearbox and transmission if they 'seem' all right etc etc. However, what I would like to see fully restored...

I'm fuming over my own stupidity

But beware! I 'nipped up' the three little screws on my speedo drive and just sheared one off. They are very small and fragile. Luckily it still worked with two!

    Ball joint problem

Weren't the ones on series 2 nut up? They were changed to help keep the water out, I thought?

    Series 3 todays dumb question

I never understood how a diff worked, till I saw one made of Meccano at a Boys-Own exhibition, probably about 60 years ago. Understood it instantly!

    Series 3 todays dumb question

Well, less than any of mine have had! I don't know how much there is from new - never been that lucky.

    Series 3 todays dumb question

that's due to the play in the half shafts and the diff. It surprises me how much play you can have, and not notice it when you are actually driving.

    Series 3 Brakes pulling

If it pulls to the left, could well be oil on the right side drum. Or brake fluid, which is slippy when fresh, but sticky when it's been there a while. Oil is easy to fix; brake fluid less so. Good luck.

    No. plate cut off date

He probably will last for ever, like all the illegally spaced plates that sort of nearly pretend to be your name. Who cares? Clearly not the police.

    Series 3 1977

Well, this is when you start to imagine all the disasters and convince yourself you're lucky not to have bought it. It's the only way...:)

Series 1 Poll: Which 3 of these 13 Land Rover Series would you take home?

You offered me three, so, 1 My first Landrover was a 1958 series II 109", so that's my personal LWB sorted; 8 a really lovely 88", and I do like that bench seat; and 12 a bench-seated LWB station wagon to make up the set, for when I have passengers. Now, when can you deliver? (btw, I notice...

    Lost my keys

" will the anti-burst ones fit the standard mechanisms ? They look alike but then so many bits do." I think the barrels are the same. Just be aware it is possible to insert the new barrel the wrong way up. It still works, but I did this and I have two doors where the key goes in smooth side...

    Dizzy question

Thanks. It is now. What with that and the correct gap it ran really well yesterday, even ticking over steadily on no choke. Now on to the next problem...
