    Series 3 Nice Series Video

He's a photographer, but someone else must be photographing him. Some talent there. And the engine and gearbox sound really sweet. Good to see someone doing what we'd all like to do.

    Diff. Ratio question ......

If you are in 2-wheel-drive you are not using the front diff, so it won't matter. If you know you'll never use 4-w-d, then ok. But not a good selling point! You, or a future owner, would have to know about it. If it were me, I'd put the required ratio on the back, then remove the front prop...

    Series 3 Rear tub repairs

'twas - it also bends the floor. I am preparing to get it back in, but I wonder if I'm sub-consciously putting it off for fear it may not go back properly. On lovely sunny days like today there's nowhere better to be than lying under a 40+ year old Landrover getting black hands and a stiff neck.

    Series 3 Rear tub repairs

Yes, it was a surprise! I had to drill out the top, then wang a long wedge between the floor and the lip. Noisy and accompanied by a lot of muttering. But it enabled the welder to get full access to the top of the chassis and do a proper job. I have also been able to clean up the chassis top...

    Series 3 Rear tub repairs

I took my floor (1974 ser 3 station wagon) out to have a new rear cross-member welded in. I had to break over 70 spot welds, plus several rivets and a couple of bolts. It was not an easy job. Now I am mulling over the best way to replace it. I was (perhaps naively) surprised to find that the...

    Starting handle

I only use mine to turn the engine, with the plugs out, when setting the timing etc. Very useful. I sort of feel that if I don't use it it will disappear, like the post office and pub and all the other things we had in the 1950s.

    Arms not long enough

Also, shut the ventilator flaps, remove the split pin or R clip, and raise the bonnet against the windscreen. But you must fasten it up - they hurt when they land on your head.

Series 3 Will garage workers loosen my nuts!

"should I be concerned that peg is now missing" = yes, as you won't be able to adjust that shoe. On new shoes, there is very little adjustment needed, but they do wear down. I also had a brake shoe with a very loose peg - perhaps they are not using such a good grade of cheese nowadays?

    Road tax (VED)

'Don't think you could change car tax retrospectively' - o yes they do that. My 2001 Forester was taxed more highly because it was built before August. The same model later in the year was cheaper. That was done two years after I had bought it. Don't underestimate the tax-man!

    Help needed

My first Land Rover was a petrol 109", from 1958, and the chassis number ended 00047. It had a few series 1 parts. I'm sure they built more than 13 in that year.

    Hiding an oil leak

There is a product - like thick tissues, but advertised as 'absorbs oil, not water'. It is marked 4-in-1 oil only pigmat, with a US phone number 1-800-HOT-DOGS. I don't know where you would get them from. The ones I have were scattered along the road locally, a couple of years ago. I fasten...

Good for me, but I do worry when they insist on driving these series 1s through salt water, just to make a good picture. I like her voice.

    Issues with Dealers

I have bought vehicles from dealers with recent M-o-Ts, but which in my opinion should never have passed. I do sometimes suspect a degree of collusion. Items included driver's side wiper with about 30 degrees of movement, one headlight loose and the other mis-aligned. One dealer lost the...
