    I did say set spanner as first statement, shifters are not that good on small dimension nuts, but the viscous nut is large and if a shifter rotates on it then, you need to invest in a better shifter, or adjust it correctly.

    was just a suggestion to get him going forward. A series 2 I had about 30 years ago used to do similar, it was only used in the bush so not a problem, it would some times get locked in first and other time reverse, by putting transfer into neutral it came out every time.

    Most likely the dipper switch on column is buggered, it is easy switch to remove and test. trust you to be different, generally squeeks disappear when its raining and damp. No it will not be your swivel pins.

    maybe you still got a minor crossover of a lead somwhere causing that, little bit of dampness under bonnet from sitting over night causing correct conditions for sparks to jump maybe, as it heats up moisture gone, just a thought.
