    Wiring a work light.

The power (measured in watts) is the voltage multiplied by the current. or P=I x V. So a 1 Watt bulb in a 12 voltage circuit will draw 0.08 amps, which sounds about right.

    No rear brake lights

I agree with greyhair, I've had to replace mine, only takes 5 minutes and costs a few quid. You could also check the voltage across is to see if it is faulty. If its not the switch then almost certainly an earth issue. Have you check the voltage across the switch or bulb?

Salvageable chassis? Will a new xmember cure this tin worm?

I went around mine with a hammer this weekend, wish i hadn't :( Lots of mild steel on order, i think my chassis will end up around 20-30% patched/ replaced.

Salvageable chassis? Will a new xmember cure this tin worm?

You can get rear cross members that include the suspension mounts, although they're about £350! I'm curious to see what you do as I was thinking is my chassis repairable and yours is definitely worse (sorry!). So if you manage to repair this, then i should be OK.

Yeah it is. I'm being a proper idiot! Aluminium doesn't rust. I'll just weld it up this weekend.

    Battery box/ tray repair

Hello, I have found a small hole in the seat box where the battery goes (defender). I have a mig welder which currently has a flux core wire in it. So i am wondering if this will weld aluminium? and if not could i just cut out the rot and bolt/ rivet a repair piece in? Thanks

Land Rover Defender Camper As First Car?

I agree with TheQ, insurance for me when i was 21 was £700, insurance at 26 is £118!! I'd get a cheap everyday car for a year or 2, also having two cars will bring down your insurance. Insuring the land rover knocked 10% off my Volkswagen policy One important thing to note, is most classic car...

Land Rover Defender Camper As First Car?

Do you need a camper van? I think most people wouldn't want a land rover as a daily drive, especially if you don't need it. Also if you're under 25 the insurance is going to be a b*tch.

    Tailgate

Hello, Does anyone know if having a missing tail gate, on a pick up, is an MOT failure? I don't have one right now and am holding out for a cheap one to come along on eBay. If i do need one, is there anything i can do instead? Bar across the gap or something similar? Thanks

    Various missing cables + Pipes

Pictures 1-4 is a male spade with an old female spade still attached. Not sure if you've seen my other thread but I do think the dip stick is missing. Have to have a better look at the sump. The vacuum tube with the screw in picture - I'm not sure if the distribution vacuum advanced is missing...

    Dip Stick

Next time I get a chance I'll have a look. I currently have no idea how much oil is in it. It isn't dripping any on the drive so it could be empty

    Dip Stick

Yeah i'm 99% sure its missing then, would it come up on one side of the exhaust manifold?

    Various missing cables + Pipes

Curious to see if anyone can identify what is missing from my V8. It starts and runs no problem and as far as i can work out these bits have always been missing. Could anyone tell me what they are and if there is a benefit to finding the missing parts and fitting?

    Dip Stick

Hello, I might be being completely stupid but i cant seem to find the dip stick on my v8. There is a chance its missing, as the engine is a transplant. The car is a 90 and the v8 is from an SD1. Could someone tell me where i should be looking for the dip stick, or where it should be? Also...

What grit range for paint rub down?

Also depends on the condition of the door. The person who painted mine before me slapped paint on with a brush and it was full of brush marks. I ended up with 180 then 240. Loads of high build then 400, using a DA. That after 2 coats of top coat i moved to hand sanding with 800, 1000, 2000. 2000...
