    Winch rope abrasion protection sleeve

I actually saw that first one my search but dismissed it because it didn't say which diameter it would fit, but I've now noticed it does! Excellent!

    Winch rope abrasion protection sleeve

This is driving me nuts, where on earth (more specifically in the uk) (and preferably online) can I get protective sleeves for winch ropes?? My new rope is a lot thicker than my old (by choice) and I can't reuse the existing sheath as a result. I've been googling and searching online shops for...

Straight through exhaust - keep it?

Up next on my hitlist, is the straight through, side exit exhaust system a PO decided to fit to my 90 with a 300tdi conversion. My god it's loud. Really loud. I do often enjoy the sound, but when trying to creep past a farmer's house when out green Laning, it's a bit embarrassing. So my...

    300tdi belt failure

Yeah I have never really had an issue getting the belt back on - not sure why people have trouble with that. The biggest issue I had was undoing, and doing back up, the pulley bolts, especially the idle pulley with the way the pulley's face is inset rather than flush. I'm sure there's an...

    300tdi belt failure

Yep, thanks guys, I did it on the weekend, was one of the easiest jobs so far on this old girl.

Driving around Europe - requirements and considerations

Ah that's good to know! Mine are in a bag in the back, I'll put them somewhere in the front then.

Driving around Europe - requirements and considerations

So far, the rough plan for the early part of the trip is to visit my colleague in Edinburgh, then head up into the highlands for a few days, maybe a bit longer. Then head back down to Newcastle and get the ferry over to Holland, and visit my colleague just outside Amsterdam. After than I'll head...

Driving around Europe - requirements and considerations

Thanks, and I totally agree about motorway driving. For me, every minute I'm driving my 90, I'm smiling - unless I'm on a bloody motorway - it's just so fecking boring.

    300tdi belt failure

On a related note, I'm going to try and fix her up on Friday with a new pump, etc. When I take the pump off, will I need to do a full coolant change, or will I just lose a bit, that needs topping up? My garage did the last coolant change for me last year, so I've no idea what they've put in it...

    300tdi belt failure

I replaced the belt with the same one that was on there, using the dayco numbering on the belt. I guess if it's the wrong length belt, then it has always been the wrong length. I think you're right that this is just a case of a nice new tight belt and new tensioner, exposing a pre-existing...

    300tdi belt failure

Indeed - I will now be adding this to my "before a longer journey" checks.

    300tdi belt failure

That's what I thought. Hence me wondering how to adjust it. So yeah I think a new tensioner and a nice new belt, and a few hundred miles of driving was probably too much for the old pump.

    300tdi belt failure

Ok.. I just need to work out how to achieve that or find a video on how to adjust it. First up, new pump.

    300tdi belt failure

I did it. I've been trying to do everything on this old girl myself, learning as I go.

    300tdi belt failure

Update: I've discovered a leak this morning still, and, the likely cause... The water pump is moving, the pulley is leaning forwards and loose. I'm thinking it failed for whatever reason, and that movement pulled the belt forwards, resulting in it cutting the belt. I think this also then...

    300tdi belt failure

Last night, while doing 66mph on a Motorway, I suddenly heard a frantic tapping noise from the engine, but not a metallic noise, more like a flapping, slapping noise. I immediately lifted off the power and the noise reduced, I put a little power back on to double check it was definitely coming...

Driving around Europe - requirements and considerations

This is great stuff guys, I'll collate everything and update the first post eventually - keep it coming if any of you think of anything else!

Driving around Europe - requirements and considerations

Yeah, I've started a bit of this, hence me taking to the forum too, as it's proving time consuming. I'm hoping there's a few people on here that have at least had some experience driving around these parts of the world that might be able to chip in. Either way, as I gather information, I'll be...
