    Not very horny

Well I found it, it was none of the ones I'd photographed! It was however a purple wire on the passenger side, which had then been run all the way down to the front, connected to a piece of speaker wire, and routed round the front of the intercooler and radiator, and into the drivers side wing...

Yeah, I had considered this - might have to rope her indoors into helping me if I want to do that. She'll enjoy that... not.

It's amusing though, all these wires hanging about - everything except the horn works, so what are they all lol

Oh, so my horn is on the drivers side, but I should be looking for something on the passenger side?! If not, I wonder if it's just that purple+green wire then in one of my pictures - I'll wire it up tonight and earth locally and see what happens

Great pun though, what with the horn being on the indicator stalk, etc. Yeah, the information out there is horrific - mines an early 1987 90 - and looking in my range of different manuals and workshop books, etc. it's as if no one would ever need to know this!

Ok, so I've not got the horn. Well actually, I've got a horn, but there's nothing connected to it. For whatever reason, one of the many POs of my 90 decided to disconnect it. I've not had much luck reading up on what wires might be the right ones to reconnect, and so far I'm struggling to...

    Turbo business

New engine in - old turbo retained... no oil excessive. As suspected, there was nothing wrong with it.
  8. HeywoodFloyd

    Hello

Welcome, she's a beauty! Get a steering lock Get a pedal lock Get a tracker Get your fingers crossed that no one takes it.

    Turbo business

Yeah. It's something I figured at least wouldn't have been helping it, that's for sure. Air filter ready to go in with the new engine. I don't get these POs that have done half arsed jobs all over the old girl. They must have known they weren't keeping her for long or something. At least she's...

    Turbo business

So I figured I'd circle back on this one and let you all know the update. Turbo was fine. It's all a result of oil pressure from the engine. It got a lot worse, started leaking from a few other places. Then the thick smoke began. Finally I gave up and I'm now swapping in a newer 300tdi. Based...

    1986 90 rebuild / restore

Wow thanks so much for the detail. So going to do this!

    1986 90 rebuild / restore

Ok. You need to detail your painting steps/technique as keswick is what I want to use on mine and I want the same results as you!

    Axel oil pressure

Taken it out for a long drive, no leaks - splendid. I'm still going to change the seals and bearings in the coming weeks though anyway.
  14. HeywoodFloyd

    Axel oil pressure

Ah hang on, ignore me, you're right, the cap is just different - it doesn't have the lip, rather than it being tucked in somewhere - now replaced. Thanks!
  15. HeywoodFloyd

    Axel oil pressure

Right, I'm confused again - while waiting for time to replace the seals and bearings, I figured I'd quickly replace the leaky dust cap - I've got a genuine LR replacement, but when I look at my hub, it actually looks differernt to ones I've seen online while watching videos on how the change the...

    Axel oil pressure

Ok, let's just hope it's that then, I find it strange that the oil managed to get everywhere without excessive pressure though - unless it was just simply flicked everywhere by the rotation of the drive flange/prop etc. The leak on my wheel stops if I park the landy on a slop towards the...

    Axel oil pressure

So why did I get an explosion of oil out of the pinion seal a while back? It was originally just dripping, but then one day oil had literally been splattered all over the underside of the car - I've now replaced the seal, and there's no drips or anything (which is when the oil leak from the dust...

    Axel oil pressure

No, and I've had a poke through the hole with the banjo bolt off - all seems quite clear to me. New seals on the way, along with new bearings - might as well do it all at once this weekend.

    Axel oil pressure

Haha no I didn't try blowing in the other end, I took the pipe out of the axel and blew in that end of it to make sure it wasn't blocked. Having said that, I'm not convinced it's any kind of special valve being used there.
