Turning the key several times to start TD4

Hi All, Our Freelander had been struggling to start recently. I suspected injectors as glow plugs and crankcase breather filter had been changed, I cleaned the EGR valve and checked fuel was free from water. Fuel filter was changed 8K miles ago, but will be changing again soon. So I tried...

Is this a reasonable price ?

Great, so now you have 2 head gaskets to worry about... £5.5K? I think you may have been ripped off. I paid £4650 for our 2005 Freelander TD4 S manual. 116K on the clock, recent VCU and gearbox oil, FSH and a few upgraded bits and bobs. The TD4 is the only reliable engine in the Freelander...

    td4 starting prob

I'd be interested to see what your cure is. We have the same problem on our freelander. I thought it was probably injectors leaking back overnight as once warm, and not left switched off for more than 4 or 5 hours, she'll start just fine. New glow plugs have been fitted. I will, however, check...

    Road Tax

So what does that make the fuel at £1.60 in Norway then? A heist? And they bring more of out the ground than they could ever use if Europe didn't force them to sell it to them at a good price. C'mon, you can moan about it all you like, but if it's that big a deal to you, go buy a more fuel...

    she-lander headlamp

Sometimes you can get away with it by fitting a beam bender on the lense to correct it, that's what the MOT station next door to us at work have done in the past. It's my understanding that our RHD headlights are more directed across to the left, than LHD headlights are directed across to the...

    Road Tax

Agreed. You know a pot hole is bad when it send a massive "Clunk" through a Freelander.... I don't get the local council around here. They spend hundreds of thousands on re-tarmaccing a main road, which really doesn't 'need' it, but they overlook a roundabout at the end of their borough whose...

    Road Tax

Ah, this old nugget. Check what it is in Switzerland or Scandinavia before jumping. It is more. Lots more (citation needed). It costs what it costs, I'm afraid, and if vehicle excise duty were reduced, they'd start charging us elsewhere. They can't rack up petrol prices that much (despite us...

    Dvla

do they actually have any machinery there? Thought it was just a bunch of halfwits with a few colour laser printers and laminators... they'd have a hard time running a tap if they weren't so micro-managed...

    TD4 Crankcase breather filter missing.

Right. This is getting frustrating. So whoever removed the original filter also removed a locating insert too. When I track down who serviced this last, I'm going to tear them somewhere new to **** out of. I'm going to go buy the BMW filter assy now... cheers fellas!

    TD4 Crankcase breather filter missing.

Well, if bu 'insert' you mean 'filter, then yes it appears to have simply been left out. The filter would only go in one way and located into rings on the top and bottom halves of the housing assembly. It just struck me as odd that it was missing and I'm now a tad concerned as to why someone...

    TD4 Crankcase breather filter missing.

Thanks for the suggestions fellas but no, it wasn't the BMW upgrade unit. The land rover oem filter went straight in to the void. There was nothing installed. Just a big gap where the filter should have been. I didn't remove anything (except the seals - I renewed them) and just installed the...
