    2000 xdi vs td4

The TD4 is smoother and it is possible to change all four glowplugs without disassembling much of the car it seems! The TD4 retains more value because it's a Beemer engine.

    Snow Socks

I don't want people to get the wrong idea here about snow socks - they are an emergency item. Yes - tarmac will shred them, but it does take a while. Ours are starting to get holes in, but this is after 3 winters use and a few miles on tarmac (in tree covered sections of road, the tarmac was...

    grey plug

glovebox light? (forget if there is one or not...) Footwell lighting? Get a multimeter on it, and then switch on ignition. If it becomes live (12v) then you know it's something which comes on with things like the cigar lighter/stereo etc. If it doesn't become live when ignition on, switch the...

    Wheel questions

15" wheels will fit (our facelift FL has 15s). But you need to check the offset, PCD and centre bore of the wheels. You also ought to know the vehicle they came from - EG wheels off a 1000kg Suzuki Jimny may not be best fitted to a 2 tonne freelander! The spare sounds aftermarket to me. If it...

    grey plug

could be power supply for an auxiliary amplifier or for a sat nav unit? Didn't some of the facelift ones have a Becker satnav system available? Does your cigar lighter work as it could be for that? generally, anything 2 cable like that is a simple power supply.

I've bought the car... Where is the SNOW!!

Your freelanders ability to function in the snow depends on your capability as a driver and the tyres fitted. hardwearing, summer tyres will be sh1t. A/T tyres are probably the best halfway house with regard longevity, useability, cost and performance in all weather.

Adrian Flux should wear a highwayman mask

Ah c'mon, that's not fair :D Them purdy pictures and helpful wiring diagrammes (read 'guides') are always nice to look at on a cold wet night after the doors have fallen off the Flander...

    Snow Socks

Quite: That's our MY2000 Saab 9-3 Cab. Snow socks are great for roads which are snowy (like the one in the second photo) but tarmac tears them to shreds. They take seconds to fit, but are quite a bugger to remove (tight fit + cold hands = difficult to remove). Grip and handling is very much...

Tratterer ask questions about a Freelander for his misses...

Precisely why the manual states that the window should not be open whilst moving. If you have no choice in the matter and must drive with it lowered, you MUST have the blower on full (and i seem to recall, not on recirc). Read the manual :) On the recommendations front, a FL1 TD4 is the best...

    Advice regarding the Freelander please

I'd echo what Steely Dan says. They can feel fragile on occasions - even the TD4. Ours always feels like the running gear is a little loose when you go over bumps, but that's what 120K miles will do to a flander. Our Saab, on the other hand, has 110K on the clock and is solid as a rock. If the...

    PF Jones Diesel (Manchester) -UPDATE.

You may notice that the original thread has been removed. This is (in part) due to the situation being resolved. A breakdown in communication between them and I meant I didn't hear from them. I spoke with their MD today and he provided an explanation as to why 2 of the 4 injectors failed -...

2005 Freelander 1.8 XEi, are we safe?

Not meaning to pick holes, but you did say you would listen to 'advise'... As with everything in life, provided you don't mistreat it, and keep on top of maintenance jobs, you'll be ok. Know that the engines don't last all that long, and as others have said, definitely look at that coolant...

    2 stroke oil in diesel

I agree. I was surprised that even after just 1 application it had made such a difference. Without this forum, I'd never have known - this shows the true value of a branded forum :P

    2 stroke oil in diesel

stuck some Tescos stuff (Carlube) in which was £2.99 per half litre. It is red, but it was all I could get hold of. The engine is definitely less rattly higher up the rev range although I wouldn't say it has more power. We'll continue to do this and see how it goes.

    Performance exhaust worth it?

Would suggest if you wish to go the longevity route, you speak to a company like powerflow or local equivalent. They can usually fab you something up in stainless for around £200-300 and customise it to a degree for you (loud, quiet, bore etc).
