your servo gets it's power from the vacume pump which is driven off the cam, the pump is the bean can shaped thing mounted above your oil filter. As said before, if the cam has worn or the vac pump is dead then you will have no servo assistance.

well it must be a coincidence then, because mine had the stuff fitted to the lower edge of the inner wing as it goes up against the chassis/bulkhead. Was it an oblonged section about 1 1/2"x 1" and about 12" long?

I was looking at something like a Facet red top pump as these run up to pressure and then just tick away gently until more fuel is needed

does anyone know what pressure the lift pump on a 200tdi runs at? I'm looking at removing mine and fitting an aluminium blanking plate in it's place and then running a 12v fuel pump to feed my injection pump, this will then do away with the problem of the lift pump failures and loss of power.
