    Sticky number plate... illegal?

It is most definatly illegal. Numberplates have to comply with the construction and use regulations regarding number size, shape, spacing and reflectance. They also have to carry the name and postcode of the number plate manufacturer. Never heard of anyone being nicked for a sticky front one.
