Damn you all ;) I bought a defender 110 CSW. 1996 300tdi, a ton of miles, one owner and a few jobs needed. Nothing too bad, mainly little niggly jobs and a ruddy good clean. I'll update in the relevant section as soon as I've made a list of issues and some questions.

:) Mad but not that mad, I'm surprised that I actually know what one of those is! Having spent a couple of hours surfing there seems to be far more decent (looking) Defenders out there. I've not ruled out a Series though, I just have to be more patient but that's not something I'm good at...

Excellent, thank you. The owner of one of the cars in my sights has said his '65 diesel will happily sit at 45 mph all day long and occasionally you can push it to 55 but you wouldn't want to for long. He also said the heat-soak from the engine bay through the bulkhead can get a bit stifling...

Great info again! I love this forum, so much better than the last place I used to frequent :clap2: So, strong, possibly a shaft breaker and only up to about 45 unless an overdrive unit is fitted. The good news is that it does have the overdrive and he says it's been very well looked after...

I've been scouring the usual places for suitable Land Rovers and I have a couple on my short list. One seems ideal but it has a Perkins 3.something ltr engine fitted. Given that part of my future plan was to get it converted to a 200TDI should I worry about this currently fitted non standard...

That is fantastic and yes, very well said. It pretty much mirrors what was said when I got the MG and with all the right work done it's been the most enjoyable motoring I've ever had. I have a tool kit and spares in the boot of the MG so I'll be repeating that process with the LR along...
