    Theft of Defender doors

If you have sound doors, how about finding an artist who can paint them up so they look as if they are falling apart?

Cheap Diagnostic tool any good ?

Whilst Hawkeye or Nanocom (pick your own favourite) are definitely best for LR, the bluetooth dongles and mobile software will work with almost all OBD11 vehicles - so handy to have anyway, particulalry if you are liable to be asked "Why have I got a warning light?". But do not leave the dongle...

Cheap Diagnostic tool any good ?

I also have one of these, which I use with and Android tablet and some software I forget the name of (biggest seller on the app store). It works fine, and can reset fault codes. There are, however, a lot of cheap fakes about that are no good. Look on ebay for one with a lot of sales and good...

Best mods for long distance motorway drives in a defender?

If you're looking to have an overnight break, consider Tebay services, which has it's own campsite and is a nice place - good food.

    Sankey Widetrack Camper Conversion

Something I've never understood about caravans is why the single sockets? A double socket costs only a few pence more, takes no extra work to install, and is a great help with the large number of electronic gadgets and their chargers most of us use. Worth thinking about when putting in your...

    Sankey Widetrack Camper Conversion

The folding mattresses are now, I think, £39. We have 2 sets, one for the caravan and one for a guest bed. Having spent 4 weeks at a stretch using them, we find them very comfortable. They are, however, in Continental sizes, so are longer than a standard UK bed, and 2 side by side are about 4'...

    How to identify model?

Now I hadn't thought of asking for the VIN, that's a good idea. The problem with a lot of small garages is that they may have taken a Landy in as a part exchange, know nothing about them (except perhaps that they are going for Big Money), so descriptions are often wrong, eg misusing "Defender"...

    How to identify model?

Thanks guys. The air intake trick is v useful as a first cut. A problem with dates is that quite a few machines were used on estates or similar, and not road registered for much of their life.

    How to identify model?

I'm looking to buy a 110 300tdi Station Wagon. One problem is that when I look online, quite often the seller doesn't mention the actual model - and in some cases don't actually seem to know (usually garages). To save me firing off loads of e-mails about machines I'm not going to be intersted...

Doors - TDCI vs welded vs series style (splandrover)

If you can't get hold of them, it would make me wonder whether it was a good company to deal with.

    Insurance

I was with Lancaster for one year, but they made such a hash of the paperwork that I would no longer consider them. When you are on the comparison sites (and you need to check more than just one such), make sure you are seeing all the quotes, not just the ones who are paying them; there will...

    Painting galvanised steel

It sounds as if you want top paint something already on your vehicle. If so you are in a better position, as 6 months weathering has the same effect as the mordant. I would still use the mordant as a precaution, but you are more likely to be successful if you are not relying on it alone.

    transporting trailoring my defender

Why are you taking it so far? As I understand the rules you are allowed to drive it to and from an MOT appointment, though it needs to be reasonably close. I assume that if you are ready to MOT, then you think it would be safe on the road. Try looking for a transporter service (breakdown firm?)...

    Air Horns - Help!

Be careful. It is probably legal to fit these, but I believe it is illegal to use them on the road. Check on this, but I think you will need to wire them to a separate switch so that you can use them at shows or whatever. Pesonally, unless you're driving a Dodge Charge, they sound a bit naff.

    Remapping Defender TD5, my experience.

Now it seems to me that remapping changes the amount of fuel being injected in various circumstances, and thus changing the performance characteristics of the engine. The manufacturer has their desired performance characteristics (eg on fuel economy) which may not be the same as yours, so there...

    Dashboard Laptop Mounting

You can get a mount for a crt tv that goes on the wall and has a double hinged arm so that you can position it in a very flexible way. Readily available at car boots etc for next to nothing. I have bolted one to the side of my wife's armchair so that it swings round in front of her when she...

    Trailer renting

I agree with Kwackerman. The more substantial pins make a much better contact, so can handle higher power demand. Also the plug has a positive twist lock into the socket, so cannot fall out. Also, the design is British. We got it imposed on the rest of EU, and now it is in common use worldwide.
