    Goodbye 90, hello 110 project

I fitted the RTC steering damper this morning. The old damper was in pretty good condition to be fair. The new one went on fine. Also took it on a 100 mile round trip with the new suspension and it drives fine. The new RTC damper makes the steering heavier at low speeds but definitely seems to...

    My Defender 110 300TDi Rebuild

Great job on this project! How does it drive with the 4" lift?? Are you running stock prop shafts?

Project Defender 110 - We need to get the ball rolling!

If you're not a mechanic then you need to get a competent landy mechanic to look at it and diagnose the issues. Engine power could be something as simple as a blocked fuel filter or bad lift pump. Brakes could just need bleeding. Not sure about the diff without knowing more. If the vehicle is...

Project Defender 110 - We need to get the ball rolling!

It's a 200tdi by the look of it.

The springs were terrafirma medium duty 2". The black carpet is car carpet from eBay. It won't rot or smell.

Project Defender 110 - We need to get the ball rolling!

Although it's painted green and the army used it, it actually doesn't look like an army spec but rather a civvie spec. The civvie doors, lights, lack of side lockers and missing fixings along with a tdi engine give it away. What have you done to it in the last 12 months?

    Replacing rear shock absorbers

Some advice from a amateur who has done this job 3 times (including yesterday). If the shock mount looks bad then buy 2 new ones with nuts/washers before you even start. They aren't expensive. Also get an angle grinder with a good cutting disc and some good grips. Spending hours on your back...

    Goodbye 90, hello 110 project

Well I couldn't wait for nicer weather and chose to swap out the suspension on the drive this afternoon. 5 hours it took. That was 3.5 hours on the front then 1 hour on the rear and half hour to pack up. It turned out that the shocks I fitted to the rear some time back were the same as the ones...

The blue spring is part of the RTC steering damper rather than the axle springs.

    Goodbye 90, hello 110 project

My suspension bits have arrived.... I took the opportunity to paint the galvanised turrets, rings and spring bases as I want it looking black under there. I may make a start at fitting this stuff at the weekend depending on weather and time...

Give them a call. I found their prices very competitive when I used them.

Just a couple of photos that I missed from above. First show the exhaust fitted and second is the first foot of the exhaust. This is the only bit of mild steel that isn't wrapped before it opens to 3" stainless. It's painted in high temp black paint.

    Land Rover std jack

They are 100% the worst jack I've ever used. I may have one in my garage..... I'll check it out later. The bottle jacks are way better.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I've just gone back and read the whole thread again myself. There's loads more I want to do still.

    Goodbye 90, hello 110 project

lol - I know they aren't pretty but I think not bad for a first attempt with a MIG. I've pretty much taught myself from watching every welding video I can find on youtube (much to my Mrs teasing). I tried the next power up setting but turned it down as I blew a few holes in the pipe. I'm going...

    Goodbye 90, hello 110 project

I used stainless wire for the welds and the mild bit at the front isn't wrapped. It's just taken back to bare metal (almost) and painted using high temp paint. 3" is fine for a turbo. I really don't think that there much requirement for back pressure on a turbo diesel like this. It's not that...

    Goodbye 90, hello 110 project

I've also bitten the bullet and ordered a medium duty Terrafirma 2" lift kit. Also a RTC steering damper. It's currently on 1" spacer blocks on the rear with heavy duty spec springs (Whatever the army fitted). The front springs are sagging and it's time for a refresh. The kit's going to arrive...

    Goodbye 90, hello 110 project

Well it's been a long time since I done any work to the old beast. My new years resolution this year was to teach myself to weld. So I snapped up a Clarke 151TE MIG welder on a machine mart VAT free day a few weeks back. I decided to start my learning off by fabricating myself a 3" bore...
