    Cooling system pressure release

    I have a 2000 Xedi. Normally a radiator has a cap that releases pressure at a specified psi. How does excess pressure get released from the Freelanders cooling system? :confused: You have a expander tank which is under pressure, but I see no relief valve/system to release excees pressure...

    Bottom Engine Shield

    Local Landrover dealer uses this method... in fact they use the shield as a shute for the oil to run down.

    Bottom Engine Shield

    You change oil every 5 000km?:confused: My manual says every 20 000km with synthetic oil (Castrol Magnetec)? I have a 2000 Xedi. Services done by Landrover agents every 20 000km as per schedule in service book. I can understand a shorter interval under extreme conditions... but have been a bit...

    What Year....

    I would like to know if there is a part number or something on the actual IRD that will indicate which IRD I have in my GL..??? I get a mixed response as to when they changed it, so if there is some physical way by which I can tell by looking at the IRD it would help.

    Vibration

    I had a similar problem on my 2000 XEDi. Found that the exhaust bracket that is bolted to the gearbox was cracked. Replaced it and all is fine. Could possible be somehing similar you are experiencing. No easy to detect, as it sits in an ackward spot, and is not easy to remove. You can only get...

    Tyre Pressures and Towing

    Hi, I tow a caravan with a 2000 XEDi, and pump up the rear tyres to 2.4 bar (34 psi). I have the exact same tyres as you. My noseweight is less than 90 kg... and should be kept less than that as reccomended by the caravan manufacturers (in South Africa). My van only weighs in at approx...

    Engine bay rattle

    Has a similar problem on the XEDi. Traced it to bracket that bolts onto the exhaust and gearbox. Bracket had developed a crack. Replaced it with a handmade bracket, and problem solved. L/R wanted to replace the IRD...... that was their diagnosis. Would not have solved the probelm. Had some red...

    4wd -> 2wd

    If I was driving the vehicle to its limits, then I would certainly insist on 4wd too. However it is a case of economics here, with poor service from the local Landrover dealer and excessive prices they charge for parts, we do not have too much choice. For real seriuos off road use the popular...

    4wd -> 2wd

    Landrover in South Africa (Port Elizabeth) advised me to go this route. They keep a storeroom full of customer propshafts with your name on it. If you wanna do some serious offroading then they just fit it on quickly (10 mins). This was confirmed by another independant Landrover specialist as...

    Whining Noise!!! :(

    Had a similar problem with whining noise.... put new tyres on and problem solved. Careful examination of tyres will show sawtooth effect, especially on outer edges. Also some flat spots on tread... these were original Michelin fitted to the vehicle. If possible swop wheels with another vechicle...

    4wd -> 2wd

    It is quite common to convert to 2WD by simply removing the propshaft. I did mine 18 months ago (done 25000km since then). The result is slightly more power, better fuel economy, significantly longer rear tyre life, no IRD or rear diff problems. Plus I still use it extensively on ground roads in...
