    Disco 1 Holiday overhaul

I can't think of anything that might give up, or hasn't been overhauled yet. Water pump and FIP will both get the cursory once-over in the timing belt phase, so anything amiss there should show up then. I have got a bit of a ropey looking tyre, but the spare is good, so no worries. I can think...

    Disco 1 Holiday overhaul

Well, this is turning into major works now, so thought I'd share. I had a few jobs to get done before we go up to Scotand for a week. Starting out in Kent, the plan is zigzag up there past all the pretty bits, camp in the peaks, then just over the border, and then on to the Cairngorms, where we...

    First Real Landrover

Welcome. Love the location. We'll be passing through there in a couple of weeks and really looking forward to it too. However, much as I hate to rain on your parade, and even though it may be better looking than the real thing ... that's a German knock-off :p

Wouldn't expect too much of that from a used car dealer anyway.

    Axle swivels too stiff!

Also may not have seated the bearings correctly.

    Axle swivels too stiff!

Because you haven't shoved a screw in and pulled the end of the shaft out far enough :p

    Axle swivels too stiff!

Taken the shims out? Nothing's fallen out? You don't want to be doing this with the stub on.

If they can't reply to your emails they don't want your money anyway. With ten grand to spend you'll have no trouble finding one.

    Axle swivels too stiff!

Make sure you're not trying to put the pin in with the brake caliper bolts or nuffin daft like that.

    Axle swivels too stiff!

CV grease is great for this, by the way. It's got a slightly gritty consistency which shows up other grit and rough bits well under a finger.

    Axle swivels too stiff!

That's a good sign. Means it isn't worn. Make sure it's all good and clean (seriously, really clean, you do not want any swarf in there, it'll undo all your hard work in minutes) and put it together with a bit of CV grease or whatever.

Call them up and have a chat. See what impression you get. Be honest and see what you get. Of course, you wouldn't expect them to admit to any faults for that money, but it should have full service history etc. If you search on here there's a buyer's guide somewhere, but you really want to know...

    Axle swivels too stiff!

Could be, but tightening the bolts down would seat it, usually.

    Axle swivels too stiff!

You've got the brake line bracket on? It spaces the bolts, which can go right through and contact the swivel surface.
