I was talking to the southern electric bloke about his td5 defender 2 years ago, and it was on its 3rd gearbox. Only 4 or 5 years old at the time too! I'd imagine they certainly do some work.

Put simply when my mate was being done for being overweight they said the trailer cannot weigh more then 3500kg, so as long as its less then that you should be fine. If the digger is 3t, with buckets and trailer you will probably be borderline.

I knocked up the extension from a combination of the old disco box and a bit of steel bar, as I didn't have access to a lathe to do it properly. As detailed on the previous page, its an easy thing to do.

From my own research into using a td5 box on a 300tdi you will need to insert a 300tdi input shaft into the gearbox and obviously use a 300 bellhousing. Regarding dash wiring I'd just disconnect anything that can't be extinguished. Is it really worth the cost and hassle though surely theres...
