says it waxed up or confirmed it was waxed up - big difference! can't do any harm to get a new fuel filter, drop the old one off carefully and check for either wax or water (which will freeze) or both! When was last time the filter was changed?
could be fuel delivery - worth checking the primary low pressure pump conections on top of the fuel tank. You'll see an inspection panel under RH rear seat. Visually check all electrical connections in the engine bay for loose connectors etc. Intermittent faults can be a right B**tard to find...

starter should be underneath, close to catalyser on exhaust system. Dia is best I could find. Sounds like a loose terminal and is the easiest and best option to start with.

I think you should start going through a process of elimination. Fuel system - fuel High Pressure and Low Pressure is in the tank. There is also a gauze filter in there. HP should deliver 4.0 bar, controlled by a fuel pressure regulator. Has this been checked and have all the pipes delivering...

This is known as the High Pressure pump and it provides pressure to the common rail for all 4 injectors- injector timing (open and closing) is electronic controlled by the ECU. Therefore, where does the timing for the HP pump (aka Injector pump) come into the equation?
