yes i am thinking this. spoke to bell engineering yesterday, they said sort tyres out first, then replace the vcu once this is done most possible cause for the noise is ird. but could also be rear dif or even both damaged. still can not understand why the ird would make a drone noise if no prop...

i thought that removing the vcu would solve the noise problem untill i get it replaced went out today and after about ten miles the noise is still there, its like a droning sound, not sure if its from the ird or rear dif looks like more expense gutted.

have now got the props and vcu off, now looking for replacement. it seems bell engineering and ashcroft are the favoured options i would appreciate thoughts on them both.Also it seems the bearings dont come with the units these i will order as well,is there anything more i should add to the...

thanks for all the replies. i have michelin tyres on the back and some cheap rubbish on the back all the same size ect..i am thinking to remove the props till i can afford to replace all the tyres and vcu. is this a easy thing to do and do i need blanking plates ect. thanks

same size and type the rears are different make to front.

tyres are all good,the rears have a tad more tread than the front. checked tyre pressurers ok at 30psi all round. Could it just be the vcu just needs changing ?

My first freelander was a manual. box came out twice in 4 years new clutch and slave. then new master cylinder and then another slave. I then bought a auto not as good on fuel but a much better car all round. Would not buy another manual.

hi had to buy a new battery. could not undo the plastic holding clamp and in the end i snapped it. Had to strap it in with cable ties to get me over christmas. Any one changed theirs for something better ? cheers

i got rid of my head unit with satnav and fitted a alpine with bluetooth for ipod connection. imo much better. a tom tom is cheaper than a disc update from landrover.
