OFFER: Up M1/M11/A1 London - Durham

Hey, I know it's last minute but I'm heading up from Bexley, through central London, then up to Durham tomorrow afternoon (Fri. 20th April). If anybody needs anything shifted somewhere vaguely along that route let me know. Haven't chosen which motorway to take out of London yet so can go on...

HELP 3.9 efi running badly back fire ect

I've recently had trouble with poor running when warm... It was the temperature sensor telling the ECU that it was constantly cold, so it was running 40% rich. If you're not getting a good resistance reading from it I'd check it out again!

    reving at startup

Well if it does it hot and cold I would suspect that something might be wrong. Mine definitely does it when it's cold... but no, park to drive to park is deinitely not right.

    Just bought my first Disco...

Sounds like a good'un! Hope the idle problem's resolved soon, I've been grappling with one for about 6 months now . Turned out to be a fault with the lambda sensor coupled with a leaky vaccum pipe. But, it must be said :nopics: :p

    reving at startup

I think the high revving for 20 seconds or so is pretty normal (happens on mine but I've had so many problems lately I just assume anything my car does is wrong haha). If it's a new thing then you might have a vacuum leak somewhere or a faulty stepper motor, but someone with superior knowledge...

    V8 hesitating

Yeah I appreciate all the help. Getting my radiator replaced now too as it's well and truly passed it. Then a full fluid change and general tidy and she'll be ready for Le Mans in the summer :)

    V8 hesitating

I didn't think it was something I had to explicitly say haha... Only realised how "modern" they are when the AA man asked if it had them! But oh well, I think Noisy probably told me to check them a long time ago and I probably never got around to it

    V8 hesitating

Well gents, just got word from my mate who's been taking a look at it while I'm in China (and who has proper diagnostic equipment), and aparantly the problem has been solved. According to him, a temperature sensor on the exhaust was working, but the wire to the ECU was bad, so the ECU was under...

Does anybody work at landrover (lode land)??

Sounds like an Urban Legend to me haha... Like that Johnny Cash song about the '49, '50, '51, '52, '53, '54, '55 automobile. Can't remember the name

    V8 hesitating

If I can't find a cheaper fix I'll have to get that dizzy then joe. Thanks for your help. But a revelation came today... Now that I finally bought a powerful torch (was working off the light from my phone before) I can see that the hose from my plenum chamber to my fuel pressure regulator has...

    V8 hesitating

Thanks for taking the time mate. I'll bear that one in mind, I guess at the very least it can't HURT to have a new distributor right? haha I'd have to save up though if you're talking about the whole distributor and not just the cap... as said before I'm saving cash to pay for the summer

    V8 hesitating

Alright tomorrow is "buy a timing light" day haha. Am I right in thinking that the car should be warmed up before the timing is checked? Cheers guys

    V8 hesitating

Standstill in neutral, the engine revs fine. If I open the bonet and operate the throttle from in there then when I give it a sudden bout of throttle you can hear a sort of spraying noise before the revs pick up but I seem to remember that this is normal. However, if the engine is stone cold...

    V8 hesitating

Done this now by the way, on the sensor and inside that little hole. Might it be worth cleaning out the entire plenum? Or would I just break something haha
  16. Tubes63

    V8 hesitating

Nah I haven't. That's the little plug on the transfer gearbox/near the handbrake right? How would I know if it's working properly? Is it just a question of unplugging then unscrewing it, cleaning it and greasing it?

    V8 hesitating

Will do. Just went to Halfords and got myself a multimeter (finally). Time to go back and get the carb cleaner . So damn forgetful haha

    V8 hesitating

I cleaned the stepper motor up a bit more and then took the old girl out for a 60 mile joyride last night. This is what happens now: If I coast to a stop from a relatively high speed (so the enigine's idling for about 5 seconds before the car stops) then when I first start coasting the rev...

    V8 hesitating

And yeah when I lived in Oz I drove a '99 TD5 defender 130, and got pretty good at botching fixes out bush (sink or swim in most cases). But I've never had to work on anything electrical, it was always stuff like replacing and securing hoses that would rub on something on the rough tracks, or...
