Worn Axle Splines? Clunk on braking

Nah all I've done is spun that one wheel while watching the driveshaft. It could be the output flange I guess... If i had been clever I would have spun the other wheel to make sure it was the diff/flange that was at fault. Can't check the specifics until 18th May though (which is when I finish...

"should I sell the land love...."

Having that sort of thing in your life really is life-changing... You are part of it and it is part of you - never forget that. Treat it like royalty, spoil it, and it will treat you well long into your old age :) Oh, yeah, and the baby stuff's pretty cool too I guess :p

Worn Axle Splines? Clunk on braking

Hey chaps... Starting a new thread instead of carrying on from the thread by Pollyrocket. I've just started noticing a single clunking noise when I brake whilst the car's rolling. I had a feel around with the handbrake on and it felt like the bumping was in the front diff... But having read...

    thump/bang when braking

Argh I've just noticed this very problem on my '93.. Clunking drivers side front when brakes applied (only moving, and only clunk if brake pedal depressed from the fully open position) Had a little feel around wiggling the old girl back and forward on her handbrake and it feels like the...

    Out and about

    1) yes 2) yes 3) yes Sad how few Landys wave back really... In Oz every car you see waves at you when you're out and about (least in Alice they did)... When you saw another Landy you both went mental at eachother like you'd found your long lost brother haha

When the new defender comes out will you hang on to your old one?

My old man's got a 130... Was talking to him about the new defender the other week and he said he liked it insofar as it'd help keep the Land Rover name alive, but he wouldn't sell his old workhorse for it. And I agree. I've always wanted to buy a brand new defender... but not the new model!

How good is your ranger rover offroad

haha I like the top comment: "If you are a retard everything is difficult, I guess"

    Diff Locks

Aye. I wanted to give that TYRO a go at the Belvoir Castle ALRC, but can't afford to break my disco haha, going down to Le Mans the week after and it'd be a shame to cancel because of some offroad mishap

    Diff Locks

Nice stuff haha. Every time I see a trial in mud or something I shudder... Can't stand driving in mud, I miss dusty sand . I'd rather be bogged down than steer left but slip right haha

    Diff Locks

haha I haven't, no, I can imagine it would be pretty nasty work  Right, fair enough, but the question was regarding people who have spent money on things the factory don't supply, like lifts, flashy toys and stuff, but not lockers. Anyway I think the answer is just "to each his own"...

    Diff Locks

Ah, but like you said, if it's a question of money, a lift costs £££, a camel cut is free ;)
  12. Tubes63

    Diff Locks

Nice. I guess my point is just that if whatever you're doing means that you have to have a 2" lift, then it would probably help to have lockers instead. If you're doing something where you don't need lockers, you probably don't need a lift. Tyres, always, but not a lift.

    Diff Locks

You didn't get +2" shocks for the rear? Fair enough, but I still think the locker gives you more offroad ability that the flashy bits people stick on their cars (including lifts)
  14. Tubes63

    Diff Locks

Well my experience has been quite different. I'll grant you that lockers don't help if you ground out, but they help if one of your tyres is off the ground, and one of the tyres on the other axle is spinning, or some such circumtance A 2" lift will cost, what, £300 on the cheap, £800 with...

    Diff Locks

If your concern is ripping up a greenlane, then surely it's better to have locking diffs which prevent wheelspin (unless all the wheels are spinning) than having massive grippy tyres which can spin freely as soon as they lose traction and will tear up the ground? I mean I guess if you just...

    Diff Locks

Ahhhhh this is a good explanation haha

    Diff Locks

it's true, but when I read what people have done to their Landy's it rarely comes up haha. I think the only one I've seen is Mr. Noisy, but then again he put his compressor in a pretty obvious place haha

    Diff Locks

Hey, This may have been asked before, but I couldn't find anything searching... Why are there so many modded Landys (Discos in particular, but also Defenders) which have obviously had a lot of money spent on them, but which haven't had aftermarket diff locks installed? If I wanted...
