The rear makers plate on my S3 has no paint on it. It had none when I bought it so cannot refer to any old colours and I am going to repaint it. I think it should be all black but with what colour lettering and "lightning" line and the raised oval surround? Any help appreciated.

Hi Rob. Just ordered the bolts from Blanchards. Couldn't get them from DLS or Paddocks (Paddocks have shut down totally!) At least now I have the time to change the seats. Cheers Tim

Outer set driver's side. There is no bolt. Just the pin with a cotter pin hole. I can feel a "hole" through the new back so there looks to be a bolt to fit - part number 331709 - but any ideas what size? Many thanks.

I have flatted out the "shop finish" with 800 wet & dry. I propose to spray that with etch primer and then two coats of polyurethane. I agree with you assessment of the primer as bought it is very thin and easily scratched but I thought it all had to be taken off before any other paint.

Yes, etch primer followed by 2x polyurethane top coats.

Repainting my S3 bonnet and replacing rusting back door. I bought a new back door which seems to be painted with a grey primer. Can I paint over this once I have flatted it out and de-greased it, or does it need taking down to bare metal? Any help appreciated. Pikefly

My S3 turned 40 in November 2017. If I understand the rules correctly she will be tax exempt when the tax is due in May 2018. The question is do the DVLA automatically apply the exemption or do I have to apply? If so - how? Tim

Just looking for a spare wheel carrier and have seen one made by Shire Fabrication in Notts. and called Venom. Made for a Defender but looks like it will fit a S3. Has anyone got or tried one? Price seems right and it opens with the rear door.

Make sure the cable runs in a gentle curve to the speedo head don't make any sharp bends. It could be the inner core catching the casing. New cable only costs about £6. Depends on how old the cable is there was one batch a couple of years ago which had dodgy ends which weren't square. Dead...
