You won't be able to get a baby seat into the middle front seat of a 90 or 110 unless it's an auto or you don't mind elbowing your new bundle every time you change gear. A 90 station wagon will also run out of room very quickly with prams, shopping etc. A 5 door Disco or 110 is your best bet...

The mechanism is held on by 2 or 3 screws. Take it off the left hand side of the instrument panel and you will have to see if the mechanism is moving or seized. If you can free it up then you "might" be able to superglue the knob back on..... unlikely but you don't know until you try.

I got 2 sets of 3 point rally harnesses from Paddocks. SEC700BLACK Securon 700 3 Point Harness with Retractor- Black Bolted them down to the seatboxes with some spreader plates. The boys are now harnessed down in their booster seats on the rear sidefacing seats.

Do you still have the switches in the dash for them? Then see if the wiring still runs to the right hand side of the door as you open it. The heated screen uses a relay which is behind the dash as well.
