Ive also heard that the intercooler hoses can get holed under the engine shield giving less boost especially at low revs its worth checking all these hoses and make sure they are all on!

Sounds like the engine pre-heat motor that uses diesel to help warm up the td4 engine a bit quicker, most td4s have them but they only usually come on if its below 4c, its on the passenger side at the bottom of the front bumper

Oh dear! good one, yes the gearbox is a Jatco, its a common fault with the landrover freelander gearbox and on other vehicles that share the same gearbox.:rolleyes:

Now it sound like a front bearing, I had the same symptoms on my cav's not that dear to fix try jacking the car up and wiggling the wheel up down and side ways if you get some play the bearing has had it.

Its always worth checking the obvious, bearings mainly,.... but if the VCU has siezed then potentially the IRD has been traumered along with other componants like rear diff & gearbox... surely there must be a definitive way of checking these blooming VCU's:mad:

definatly try disconnecting air mass meter it was the problem for my old td4 , I disconnected it and suddenly it had a turbo!

Not much help I know but I use car ramps but I would also be interested in knowing if theres anyone out there that puts axle stands in a particular place with no adverse affects:D

Wow I can input on this one!!! Well just had two problems on my auto 51 plate td4 113k Symptom:- Gearbox slipping in top end gears 3rd fourth fifth Solution and fix:- Main piston in gearbox cracked that puts pressure (or lack of it in my case) on the clutch...apparently it has a clutch...

do you have any more info like mileage and year? Is there any diesel smell at all? Ive heard about air leaks giving this type of problem.

I have to agree with you all on this when you talk about knowledge, experiance is invaluable and unfortunatly sometimes in a forum it does show the freelander in a bad light. BUT. you have to remember its the biggest selling soft roader there is and theres a hell of a lot of em!!!! just drive...

Kinda off topic but... following your comments ming, my local landie specialist had a air blockage on my 2.5dse rangie a couple of months ago and he said the only way to cure it was to run the car into the red temperature wise... I nearly had a heart attack it was in the red for about 10-15mins...
