    255 85 r16's & clearance

I know it's an old post but I've been without a Land Rover for a bit so havent been on. I did get these tyres and the DO scrub the wheel arches so I had to saw off quite a bit which pi**ed me off because I asked tons of people and they said they wouldn't. Anyway, I sold the 110 and got a Jimny...

    What size tyres to fit?

Hi. I've been considering the same question. I have it on good authority (on this forum and from a Land Rover Dealer - Rogers of Bedford) that 255/85 r16's are as big as you can go without modification. Hope that helps - I'm fitting them on mine when the old ones wear out.

    Bedfordshire Green Lanes

Hi. I'd like to tag along next time hopefully, esp. santa Pod. Just a note of caution re farmers/going off track - don't forget that the farmers own the land and they don't always like to see recreational 4x4's. Best to keep them sweet! More people want to ban 4x4's from the country than enjoy...

    Bedfordshire Green Lanes

Hi. Got down it without any problems. Some deep ruts in places and a big water hole (can avoid). Nice gloopy mud - plenty of grip. Could get tricky with all the rain though! Still my #1 byway! Also found a nice byway from Ashwell Herts, nice to walk the dog but not challenging.

    Bedfordshire Green Lanes

I'm going down the Santa Pod byway on Saturday 26th - going alone in 110 - not done it this year so hope it's passable - was OK last year. Happy if anyone wants 2 tag along. I'll be there at 9:30 ish from the A6 end.

Land Rover Engines - 'Green Tax'

I guess you don't know the answer to my question then, about the other use of the Land Rover engines.

    255 85 r16's & clearance

My current tyres are nearly worn to the legal limit so I need to change soon (wheels as well for what I want). My question is; If I fit 255 85 r16 Mud Terrains without any modification to the 110 Defender, will the tyre rub/snag at any point? e.g. on full lock, full articulation etc. I need the...

Land Rover Engines - 'Green Tax'

I'd be very interested to know if the engines used in Land Rovers are in the same 'Green Tax' band as other vehicles using the same engines. I have a TD5. If there were differences, then it may stir up some controversy! I have a poll running on river cottage forum about the Green Tax, which...

Alternative fuel for 'Gas Guzzlers' Tax

I'd be very interested to know the answer to this too! I'd love a Hydrogen Powered Defender and I bet it's not the manufacturers that are holding back!

Fitting rear seats in a defender 90

Hi. I fitted two inward facing rear seats into the pick-up bit of my 110 double cab. I had to drill the holes, but it was'nt difficult. I got them from Paddock Spares on the web and they are perfect.

    Engine Type and running cost

Hi I had a mint condition ex-army 90 which I bought from Witham Specialist Vehicles. They are the ones to go to for sure - http://www.witham-sv.com/ Apparently ALL MOD vehicles go through them. They then sell directly or sell in bulk to other ex-military dealers. It had Michelin XCL's which do...

Devon Camping FREE 4x4 Track! Watch this space!

Hi I'm pleased to hear that there is interest in my venture. I will let everyone know when it is up and running (once I sort out any planning issues etc). As it is getting harder to find decent places to drive off road I hope this will work.

Byways in Hertfordshire - are any open?

I have by chance, driven past a few byways in north herts over the summer and EVERY one of them has been closed with a locked gate. Does anyone know if this applies all over herts or was I just unlucky?

I've done it alone in a 110. You have to pick your way in places but it's worth it. There are some really good routes to follow.
