    Fitting sidesteps

Yes, pretty quick job (assume they're LR parts). I did mine pretty quickly. However mine was new, so there were no hold-ups with corroded fitting points...

    How fast ?

90 in my 2002 TD5 is pretty OK. Occasionally get there when overtaking on the A9. Usual cruise speed is 60-65mph. Once above 65 the right hand pedal acts more like a "volume control" than an accelerator pedal... :)

    Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 B3 in a TD5

Me too - been running Magnatec Diesel 10-40 for the last 2 oil changes - no problems. I find the car runs pretty good on it (used to use full synthetic before, but the Magnatec seems smoother). My car is normally kept in Aviemore, and it's been fine even in winter.

Looking for a welder in Edinburgh Area

Yes, Andy's good - he's done almost all my Land Rover work (the bits I can't take on) since the vehicle's warranty expited 4 years ago. Better still, he's 3 miles from my house on a main bus route so easy to drop-off the Disco... Here's another local guy index

Looking for a welder in Edinburgh Area

Have you tried a local independant like Andy: Land Rover Range Rover Edinburgh Specialists White's Auto Services Or Leng Land Rover

    only one working ket fob

You could try heading to a dealer (or independant) to see if it needs re-matching to your vehicle... A few minutes on testbook should sort it (or not and you may need a new key). Where are you based?

    ACE - Bin or Repair?

Just a further comment... My td5 has spring suspension. If you have SLS (airbags!), then I don't believe the cornering is as good without ACE. I did drive a non-ACE airsprung Disco, and it wasn't as stable in corners as a non-ACE coil-sprung model...

I would try a new battery, if that fails, ready this http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/keys-84374.html

Td5 AC/Heater switch not illuminating in dark ?

I purchased 2 x JWH 100070 "Bulb - Dial Illumination" bulbs from my main stealer - cost £2.24 each (NB I can't find these on the web anywhere other than Rimmer Bros who don't display the price in their online catalogue). I had two bulbs gone, one in the right-hand rocker switch, and the one...

    Keys!!!

I lost a key for my TD5. Fortunately my local independant dealer (in Edinburgh: http://www.whitesautoservices.com/ ) got a blank from the main dealer at cost, and reprogrammed it. All for £90. Otherwise I found (but didn;t use so I can't recommend) these guys: Land Rover Discovery II...

For those considering...TD5 Heavy Duty Flywheel/Clutch conversion

Interestin posts. I had my flywheel & clutch replaced ( see http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/td5-clutch-judder-52576.html ) a while ago. The judder is OK, but never really gone away. The Britpart route looks like a decent option. I see Ashcroft ( Ashcroft Transmissions ) do a clutch kit...

Changing brake pads on a Disco 2

There's a character (mine is an "M" I think) - stamped on the locking nut key - that's the one you need to order... You can get them off ebay - see example...

Changing brake pads on a Disco 2

    That's a great link! I did mine a while back - see http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/disco-2-td5-brake-disks-pads-bleeding-44852.html

    Towing Package

Re the electrics. If it's a Disco 2, there's a milti-pin connector behind the high-level right side rear light (as listerdiesel says). The part # (for a discovery 2) is STC50081 - this part should include the whol assembly for the electrics, including the 7-pin plug which you plug your trailer...

    ACE - Bin or Repair?

Update. Finally decided to bin the ACE. Got the job done by an independant 4x4 man in Inverness. Collected the car yesterday - wish I had done it ages ago. In most conditions you can't tell the ACE has gone - just when charging down a bendy lane or fast on a roundabout. In normal...

    Ramps or axle stands

Where are you? If you're near Edinburgh you can borrow my Axle Stands (3 ton ones). Beware that Halfrauds-type cheapy stands may not have enough load rating for a Landy - I bought 3-ton ones. I usually drive my car onto something (such as a group of bricks) for larger jobs under the car...

    ACE - Bin or Repair?

Pastmaster - what went wrong with yours? I guess if I understood the common problems, then that would help me decide wether to keep or bin the ACE. I would hate to spend a fortune repairing it for another problem (accelerometer, pump or switchgear) to happen in no time at all... Then I...
