    Winter tyres and why.

I'm a big believer in winter tyres. Over a year ago I bought a set of second-hand set of alloy wheels (for our other car) on ebay - second-hand off a 2004 Volvo XC90. Had them fitted with Vredestein WINTRAC tyres - now got summer and winter tyres... Car's an XC70, so it's got 4WD anyway...

how do you know whe your front springs need replacing?

The broken spring was noticed at a MOT. The car was up on ramps (I always watch an MOT while I wait), and the spring had broken right at the bottom - I did see the break but hadn't noticed it happen - also I would not have seen the damage easily without ramps. As I left the MOT station, I...

how do you know whe your front springs need replacing?

I had one spring break (front nearside) about 15 months ago (2002 D2, 165,000 miles, owned by me from new). The dealer put a single new spring in the nearside, and I can't tell any difference (i.e. the nearside does not stand higher than the offside). I asked the dealer (independant) if it was...

    Watts linkage

Just been under the car. It's the one at the bottom of the centre pivot that's failed. I can actually move it just with my hand...with a bit of leverage it has around 2mm or play in it. I guess to replace this one alone, I will still need to take the central pivot off completely to press...

    Watts linkage

Yes, I have a rattle on my Watts Linkage (not sure which bush yet, but if I take it apart I may as well do the lot while I'm in there), and will be doing the job this year (before the MOT) - if a Polybush one was available at a decent price, I will go for one. Judging by recent threads, if...

    Watts Linkage bushes RGX100960...

TaDa - great write-up, Thanks. Must admit, my knock is getting worse, but I keep putting this job off till another day...for now. I'll have to do it soon (probably before next MOT)... One thought... Does the vehicle have to be supported by the chassis? Or was that for access...would an...

    Watts Linkage bushes RGX100960...

Hmmm - I too am researching this, as I get a loud knock when the car is rocking side-to-side when off-road (don't really notice the sound on-road). I thought: RGX100970 its inside the rod where the rod meets the chassis (PolyBush Kit "1AE" is the replacement) RGX100960 fits on the joint...

Getting tyres off with out locking wheel nut key?

Laser make a locking wheelnut removal tool: Laser Tools | 3748 | Alloy Wheel Nut & Locking Removal Kit 8p However as others say, there are only a few types (they have a letter on them) and you can order them for a few £. My local independant keeps a bag of them for removing wheels..

    ACE warning light

The best (imho) solution would be to take it to a garage and get the diagnostic system plugged-in. Could be a number of things. A similar thing happened to me and it was the upper accelerometer out of tolerance. About £40 for a new one. But without a diagnostic it would have been a sod to...

    gearbox oil alternative

Well...you were expecting different views...? Mine works fine with the MTF94 in the gearbox. Bought from the LR dealer around £28 for 5 litres. You can just about get 2 changes from 5 litres (I did, even tho it's supposed to take 2.6 or 2.7 litres). In the transfer & diffs I used a...

I just dont know what to do mates?

I have an xc70 (D5 Geartronic) and a Disco TD5 (manual). Both 5 cylinder diesels... On a long motorway journey, no comparison, the Volvo D5 is soooo smooth & refined and very quiet. The finish is as good as Audi or BMW (in fact as good as any of the 17 cars I have owned of which at least 10...

    Removing ACE

I had my ACE removed a while back. Mine's a 2002 model - GS with springs (not air suspension). I can honestly say I don't notice the ACE has gone at all - drives the same. However I once drove a 2003 TD5 without ACE but WITH air suspension and the car did lean a bit in corners...

Disco TD5 Breakdown - Fuel Pump?

Pricey too - mine lasted almost 8 years (and around 150,000 miles) before it went... Apparentlty the non-LR ones are flakey, so recommendation is to use a kosher LR one

    Any idea?

Last time I changed the filter the new one looked like that. I removed (unscrewed) the white blanking plug from the bottom, and swapped the sensor from my old filter - looks like someone forgot to swap the sensor over...
