I think my Disco has a terminal problem......

You'd certainly be being ripped off if a garage replaced the cam belt, because it doesn't have one! I repeat...are there any Disco owners left in the UK?!! :) Matt

Bonnet lifting slightly when doing 70mph or windy.

Get exactly the same thing - 'waving' at the sides. Even caused me to stop off at a junction a couple of times to make sure it is properly closed!! Matt

    That red oil can light.......

I assume you checked the oil level before packing it off? Oil pump sounds likely given the bolt problem on Td5's, but equally could be something as simple as low oil level as the warning lights can often mean several things - I'm not familiar with them on a Td5 so couldn't say without looking...

    Nuts!

and I'd probably replace the existing ones with those too (come to think of it, I still might) don't fancy messing about like we did at Availles on the side of the Autoroute - and I don't suppose I'd have several LR owners worth of tools available to sort it either! Matt

    Nuts!

Was going to point you in that direction, but see I'm too late! They are the ones I was going to buy, but never quite got around to it! Matt

Car not Starting - stranded in France

You can speak to the bank, but writing a cheque out in France is very different from writing a cheque out in the UK. Hence why I was able to write out a substantial 5-figure cheque for our motorhome and drive off in it the same day!! I couldn't possibly imagine doing that in the UK. That's...

Can I Use Them On The Road

The tyre size might be the same, but due to the increased tread depth on the muds, the rolling circumference is quite different from road tyres. My muds [maybe not for much longer, eh Jason?!] despite having the same 'tyre dimension' as my road tyres are hugely different in size. I certainly...

    Diff lock working or not.

Mine does the same thing, just got to check the light is on before hitting any tricky hills etc.! One nice thing about the 38A was that you didn't have to think about engaging / disengaging it! Matt

    Diff lock working or not.

I have to say, I ready you post as extremely rude and aggressive. Having been out laning (can I call it laning JB? was more like a mountain pass to me!) with Jonathan, I'm pretty sure he understands what he's talking about! - respect to you JB for not boasting about your 'superior' knowledge...

    Electric window ECU

LOL - tried to do exactly the same thing myself until I realise the board came out! I should have mentioned that one, sorry. Matt

    Electric window ECU

It is behind the glove box! Common problem - one of the joints on the circuit board cracks. Takes about 30 mins to fix. check discoweb.org -- - "Tech" section If I remember correctly, there is a page that tells you step by step how to fix it. Matt

can smoking damage your discos health

Probably just a symptom of being sat around doing nothing for ages. Give it a good long run out on the motorway. Also, don't forget to change belts etc. they degrade with time just as much as they do with use, so make sure they are OK - especially the cam belt! Matt

it's taken one week to put me off disco's

I've had two Volvo's too, both had terrible problems with the engine cutting out randomly at junctions, no garage was able to diagnose / fix it, just charged me a fortune for new parts each time! At least LR parts are dirt cheap! If there are no leaks, the air con blows absolutely ice cold. Matt

    £520 for a new clutch !

Can't recommend Steve Hill high enough. Used to be senior LR main dealer mechanic, and he's excellent, especially if you have one of those awkward problem. Bit more expensive than a regular independent because he's a specialist, but makes up for it in knowing how to sort it out so spends less...

    Series wheels/tyres...

Too much hassle! Tho I've already answered my question by rolling them up to the SIII - size looks fine, but the steel wheels won't fit over the SIII free-wheeling hubs! Matt

    Series wheels/tyres...

I have a set off muds for the Disco, 235/70 R16's, they are on RRC steels. Can I fit them to the Series III without causing problems? Cheers, Matt

    Rear windows dead

Common fault with the elec window ECU located in the glove box (well, behind it) takes about 30 mins to fix if you are handy with a soldering iron. A Google search should reveal some step by step instructions. Matt

    lubricating rear door

Best stuff I've found for door hinges is spray on Lithium grease - some of them come with a little tube like WD40 so you can get it right into the hinge, work the hinge back and forth and spray a good dose in. Works a treat - I've even used it on the window shutters on the house, they are...

    Bloody Insurance companies AAAAArgh

I've only ever known insurers insist on Thatcham approved on expensive sports cars etc. But on an old Disco, after they have already agreed cover??! weird!! I'd phone them up and ask to speak to a supervisor. Explain that at the time of taking out the insurance that they agreed to cover the...
