    replacement series 2a doors

I have a scruffy, unglazed safari rear door free to collect from West Sussex. New panel skin and handle, hinges, glass and a lick of paint good to go.

    What should I do?

Blimey, don't where you chaps live but an SIII with a great interior, solid chassis and overdrive plus 2 new tyres costs at least £1500 ish, knock him down a couple of hundred for the starter motor of course. If you're unsure maybe 'watch' similar models on eBay and use that as a bartering bench...

    Cold Start Light

When I had a diesel SIII (have petrol now) I changed the glow coils for glow plugs, and when installed the cold start light worked for the first time! The coils were a charred and corroded mess I assume this is why no light; God knows how it ever started on those coils! Well worth the upgrade...

I hate my exhaust manifold! Rusting/seizing prevention??

I noticed my manifold is loose today, probably from the Xmas drive home! I use a torque wrench, easy to use, refer to the workshop manual for settings where relevant. Saves guesswork, sheared bolts and things too loose. Also serves as a guage for how much something may have become loosened...

    Wiper help please.

People customise these things. So yours may not be standard, however... My wipers are one speed. If you push/press the wiper knob, the screen wash motor should engage. Turn the wipers on first because sometimes the jets of water just hit the wiper arms if static and it may seem they don't...

    Can't engage low range

May sound daft... but are you in neutral first? Not resting on the clutch in 1st?

    Gear selection problem

Well worth bleeding the clutch. Couple of weeks ago I had real problems shifting. Was planning to replace clutch cylinders but thought it was worth bleeding the clutch as lost no fluid from reservoir. I used an easy bleed, which made bleeding, er easy. Cap on master cylinder was quite loose...

    your land rovers name

Mine is called Henrietta. I asked my last GF who's French for a name, she said, "Nora Batty, because although she is old, she still excites passion in an old [33!] Man" So I named her after Henry V! Agincourt! Once more unto the breach, dear friends..

Bought this little beauty! What you guys think?

I think this is smashing, planning to keep it red? I think I would.

    Starting Problems

When you turn it over can you see any exhaust? I sometimes have to prime my carb. when it's very very cold. It needs a good cleaning and servicing really, but try a very small amount of petrol in the top of the carb, a tablespoonfull!

    Series brakes 'trying to bleed'

I would use an Easy Bleed. I had the same issue with my clutch, wouldn't bleed manually (i tried quickly before connecting an Easy Bleed to see if I could save the bother). Easy bleed worked perfectly.

    who of roads

My SIII is now my only vehicle. No off roading for me. Did some off-roading on Army driving courses, great fun. When (if) I grow up and have a house with a barn and fleet of old cars I might take it up! I had great fun in the snow!! I was the only vehicle in the car park one day, I am sure many...

    Diesel or petrol Series 3

I have owned both, currently have a petrol 88 SIII 1972 had an 1982 Diesel SWB before. Pros and Cons... Diesel is noisy a lot noisier than a petrol, a little cheaper to fuel. Often smokers! However, a bit more robust in the wet, took a while to preheat the plugs for a smooth start in the...

    Indicator fault

I doubt it is this simple... but I had the same problem, I was continuity testing and drawing a blank. I then on whim just started to press each fuse home to make sure it was in, and one must have been a little loose. I must have dislodged it when taking the dash panel off to fit a new flasher...

    clutch and brake operation

My SIII clutch lost pressure this week, I thought I would be changing the master and slave cylinder this weekend, but last night thought I'd bleed the clutch just in case that worked. It did! A load of silty black, watery grey fluid out, golden Dot 4 in and the clutch is working fine. Worth a...

MOT Failure - But I don't think it should be!

Stand easy chaps it got the ticket! Subsequently... because I am that kind of idiot; I changed them anyway! Managed to do it without removing the tub, but it did get a bit Krypton factor and a lump hammer and a liberal amount of effing and jeffing was required.

MOT Failure - But I don't think it should be!

Oops... forgot to update, YES it was fine and MOT worthy, I will be taking it back to my more classic car savvy local garage next year!

MOT Failure - But I don't think it should be!

Perfect summary. Yet to get it back in for test, but have sussed out a more classic car savvy garage. The first one also failed it on hazard lights out of phase. Which was impressive seeing as there are none. My fault, they're so honest and friendly it's hard not to take your cars there...

MOT Failure - But I don't think it should be!

Thanks for reply. Bit of development since then... rang a local Landy Specialist (spent most of his career at LR apparently) to get the work done and he was very honest knew exactly the bits I was referring to and said it doesn't need doing. Rang the garage and we had a civil agree to...
