200tdi cylinder head gasket blowing air out at rear of engine

thanks for that! i'll have to look into cost of head skimming here in rip-off ireland though... 40quid usually means double it while converting to euro's then add another 20% "paddy tax"!!! oh, and i'll probably have a 60 mile trip to get it done and it'll take a week longer than it should! not...

200tdi cylinder head gasket blowing air out at rear of engine

ok so unsurprisingly the cylinder head bolts havent worked their way loose! in fact impossible to check tightness as they're tightened by degrees rather than torques!! forgot about that! gotta be a new head gasket required... more fun!

200tdi cylinder head gasket blowing air out at rear of engine

Hi all, my engine's blowing out air at the rear of the engine from the cylinder head gasket - any suggestions? so far havent lost any water or oil and it runs ok if a little underpowered due to lack of compression. just about to check the cylinder head bolts for tightness. i havent overheated...

    Gas shocks?

Hi, can anyone give me the lowdown on gas shocks?! I've noticed a massive variation in price, what i'm not sure of (having never been near a gas shocker) is whether they can be re-gassed? seems to make sense that they should be re-gassable, but then that would mean never having to change...

new clutch - low biting point

Hi all, just fitted new clutch, release bearing and HD fork to my 90, 200tdi, lt77 have bled hydraulic system fully and biting point is right at bottom of pedal travel, or to put it another way there's lots of free travel in clutch pedal befor resistence is felt. From what i can glean looking...

What type of Engine does your 110/90 have?

200tdi disco conversion. has a defender around it... exactly 51% of the time. Which just about makes it worthwhile! seriously though, IMO the best engine all round along with the 300tdi

New Defender for 2015 first pics

ah right... so they'll be using hilux's now then?! if ever there was a brilliant piece of marketing propoganda it was that episode of top gear! if i had a quid for every time i've been fixing my landy and someone comes by and says - you should have got a hilux, they're indesructable... and...

200tdi - leaks front and rear...

Howdy... Have engine out of my defender at the moment, doing a clutch change and am tinkering about trying to find anything else i can attend to while its out... just as an aside.... Dont know if anyone else has had this issue but both wading plugs (the one in the flywheel housing and the one...

New Defender for 2015 first pics

Well... i think LZ will have to start a whole new forum section for these so-called defenders... where people can discuss such critical issues as upholstry options, how to plug it into a diagnostics computer and where to keep one's fluffy pink toy for demisting the windows on winter mornings...

    engine stuck to gearbox!

Thanks for that! It now also seems that it wasnt the rear crank oil seal that was leaking... fitted a replacement 200tdi block about 2 years ago which involved swapping the flywheel cover as the replacement was out of a disco... i'm sure i tightened the housing-to-block bolts to the correct...

    engine stuck to gearbox!

Ok... Ok... i take back what i said about britpart... well at least partially, my rear crank oil seal was one of thiers and it leaks like a bugger... but then it'll probably turn out i fitted it wrong! anyway... got the old knackered fork out today and lo and behold... the pivot ball is...

    engine stuck to gearbox!

Forks Sake! And just to make matters more confusing the listing says it'll fit a V8 as well! Thanks storm... but will it last? Even two years would be an improvement! So why is it theres plenty of landy's about 10+ years old that have never had to have clutch fork or even clutch replaced, if...

    engine stuck to gearbox!

ok... i'm now fairly befuddled! it looks as if the nice chunky release forks will only fit V8 or Td5 defenders... so i now have a choice of 1. cheap britpart "standard" release fork... been there done that, wore out in 18 months... 2. britpart "heavy duty" release fork with plate welded on the...

    engine stuck to gearbox!

oh bugger! actually the one i ordered is this one from paddocks: Clutch Release Fork are you saying this wont fit? it's listed as a defender part.... i know i'd feel a heck of a lot happier with a good chunk of metal in there rather than a flimsy bit of sheet metal... the britpart may be...

    engine stuck to gearbox!

hi all... OK... engine's out, i jacked the gearbox as far up as it would go (right on the bellhousing where it joins the engine to create a good pivot point) then stood on the thermostat elbow (being the furthest point at the other end of the engine - maximum leverage) and did a vigorous little...

    engine stuck to gearbox!

thanks... it's the engine i'm taking out. all 11 nuts have been removed. engine mounts off, gearbox is supported by trolley jack, have tried letting tension out of hoist to see if the weight of the engine will start it splitting - no joy, not a single mm. in fact have even stood on engine as...

    engine stuck to gearbox!

Hello all... am splitting engine and box on defender 90 - or at least trying to - in order to find out what went wrong with my clutch... have removed all the nuts but the engine will not budge from the gearbox, have been hoisting and wiggling it most of the day. I'm a bit wary of doing...
