    100 inch defender

Mark Evans talks about them in his video on his 100" build. Apparently 25 were built and sold to French and Swiss military.

    Wehat Oil Type

5W/40 works pretty well year round, and it takes about 6.5 liters for a change with a filter swap.

    headlights!

I had to splice the red/blue wires when I pulled the dim/dip, but all is good now.

brake pedal hard, brakes binding but not stopping - help!

Hard to understand where you are; you stated both "Now I have a solid pedal..." and "Now I have a soft pedal..." Which is it? Hard pedal and no brakes is likely stuck caliper pistons or possibly a blocked pipe. Soft pedal could be a number of things, from air in the lines to bad seals in the...

    dash lights

Blue light is the hardest to see, so that's part of your problem. I went to Maplin, bought a pack of 12v white LED's. Took me about 30 minutes to fit them into the existing bulb holders and solder the wires. Cost under 10 quid. All gauges well lit now.

    gauges: Durite, TIM vs. VDO

I've got an OEM oil pressure gauge, still looking for volts and water temp. Was just curious because there are a lot of TIM and Durite gauges on eBay and other places. Not too many VDO gauges on eBay lately, but perhaps the snow will refill the breaker pipeline... :p

    gauges: Durite, TIM vs. VDO

I'm adding a few gauges -- oil pressure, volts, proper water temperature. Initially I was set on VDO, but what's the experience with TIM or Durite gauges? The Durite look cheaply made. TIM look better. Are OEM Landy from VDO? Thanks

    Cubby box middle seat

In newer US pickup trucks, it's common to have the center seat fold forward, and have a "cubby" on the back with a box, cupholders, etc. That way you have utility but the option for occasional seating. I am surprised there is not an aftermarket option like this for Defenders. And there's a...

    Things I don't need...

...but you might? All used, all Defender bits except as noted. > Windscreen frame - red, no glass or seal > 1 front door glass, 4mm > Grill, good condition with LR badge > 300TDi fan with viscous coupling and shroud > Used heater core/matrix straight pipe style > 2 complete parking...

What have you learned from Defender ownership?

Owning a Defender is a bit like a religious conversion. I have learned patience (with the never ending repairs), calmness (when whatever I start repairing turns into 3 other problems), generosity (to John Craddock) and realized I have taken a vow of poverty and possibly celibacy! :p

    p-gasket renewal how-to

Part number for the core plugs on 300TDi is ERC4996, the 53 mm ones. Just had to order, as my leaky P gasket turned out to be a leaky core plug...

If your nuts start roundin` off ??

DanBerry, I feel your pain. Yesterday I set about replacing the rear calipers, as the ones on the 110 have become solid lumps of corrosion. The lower caliper bolt did a couple turns, then rounded off, even using a 12 point socket. The upper bolt is too close to the spring for my 1/2" ratchet...

300TDi manual brakes or hydro pump

Just thinking out loud, folks. I understand that others may not get it. I thought there might be some like-minded tinkerers on the forum, but I'm sensing a "don't mess with factory" vibe here. The LR 4 pot calipers are more than up to the job of stopping the truck. A properly designed...

...as we say in Yank land! Thought I should stop lurking and offer up an intro. Hello, I'm Tony, and I have Land Rover Disorder. The current manifestation is a 110 with a 300Tdi that is coming together from bitsa an '84 military body and a '95 commercial and a growing list of other donors...

    Lift advice And pics please!

A way to spend more? :p Technically a remote res gives you extra capacity to disperse the heat created when the shock works, maintaining the normal damping rate for longer.
