    Should I Pay or Not??

Hi Guys The garage that DIDN'T fix the job was Dave Datson's at Threemilestone, they're the ones that have sent me the bill. Castle Motors (yes at Liskeard gav) are the ones that fixed it AND didnt charge me, even after I had bollocks them for selling me the car in the first place that...

    Should I Pay or Not??

A few of you may remember my saga back in May / June when I had problems with my 1999 1.8 Freelander. There was loss of power and no acceleration at all. It was sent to a garage after having all electrics done & new fuel pump. The garage could not solve the problem after 2mths of having...

    Help of Any Kind Needed

It was Riders Land Rover in Truro, Northern. I had paid them £350 for the 4.5hrs investigative work they did but am waiting to hear back from Trading Standards as to whether I can claim it back AND refuse to pay the other Garage's Bill. :)

Freelander loss of power at 70mph

So am now into my seventh week without my Freelander :( not driven it since 3rd May  I'm sticking my neck out here now by giving the next instalment of the saga as I know that there will be lots of 'I told you so' comments from those who think the FL is a naff vehicle. Even getting...

Freelander loss of power at 70mph

Worse now than I thought. Mechanic thinks it's the piston rings :( This would therefore mean the bottom end now needs to be looked at. Bottom end alright lololol seems it's a bottomless money pit at the moment.

Freelander loss of power at 70mph

Hi All Having been without my FL for a whole month now, the local garage has finally found the problem. The head was taken off on Monday morning and they discovered that one of the Hydraulic lifters had got hot and was stuck shut. Am getting a price tomorrow for renewal of said lifters &...

    Freebie 1.8 petrol PLEASE READ!

Hi Doobrey. When I said compression test, yes I meant an overnight pressure test. They said it held the pressure and when they put the plugs back in it ran sweet as you like for a few mins and then went lumpy and stopped. And as to the other thread, yes this is the one that we went through...

    Freebie 1.8 petrol PLEASE READ!

I have already posted my problems on the threads of (loss of power at 70mph and Head Gasket). But thought that after reading this lot above, I would add fuel to the fire. My Petrol FL 1.8 has been off the road (literally!!) for the last 4wks. Nobody seems to be able to figure out what's...

    freelander head gasket failure

Bill I have a feeling I am about to have the same problem as you. The local dealer garage has been trying to find the fault on mine as to why it won't run and has no power when accelerator depressed. They now think it the head gasket and need to do a crack test. If the worse comes to the...

    Help of Any Kind Needed

Hi Clutch Thanks for that. The upshot of the last 24hrs is that they did a compression test and those were ok but could have been better. So they put it on a pressure test overnight. Next day when they put the plugs back in she ran as sweet as a nut for a while but then went, as they put...

Freelander loss of power at 70mph

Latest update!!! Service Foreman spoke to me this morning. Compression Test being done. If still no joy, he's suggesting it goes back to the other garage as they are on cheaper rates than the dealer it's at. He feels that it's unfair to charge me too much if they cannot sort the fault. :(

    Help of Any Kind Needed

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. There is no oil/water on the driveway and no water on the dipstick. The service foreman is phoning me later this morning to discuss next move. I will ask him to do all the things you've put forward. Let you know what happens.
