    P38A 1999 2.5 DSE down on power

For me all the action is at full throttle. I need about half throttle to keep speed. Did a 200km drive this weekend over a mix of mild hilly motorways and flat A and B roads managing 15l/100km which is on the high side I think. Feels like I lack boost. Thanks I'll unplug the MAF and see what...

    P38A 1999 2.5 DSE down on power

Hi all, I have an issue (I think) with my 1999 p38 2.5 DSE auto. I am not sure there is an issue because I never drove the car without engine issues, and it's my first car with automatic transmission. So I don't know what is normal.. So some background: I got the car with leaky injection pump...

    P38A Head gasket advice needed

That sounds like a great idea! Gonna have a think how I can do something similar (don't have a vacuum pump).

    P38A Head gasket advice needed

I ran the engine with the car on ramps and the expansion tank cap off. Three times until hot then cooling down for 30mins. Managed to get another 2 litres in. Next I'll check if pipes to throttle bottle are clear, didn't have time for that.

P38A Radiator drain plug o-ring troubles

Thanks everyone! I tightened it up with a screwdriver and used a slightly fatter o-ring. Let's see!!

    P38A Head gasket advice needed

Thanks guys! I did follow RAVE procedure including blowing out the bleed line from rad to expansion tank, however RAVE procedure is limited to basically 'fill it up, run it and continue filling it up'. Which I found strange anyway. Will try the tricks you have mentioned this weekend! Maybe I...

    My 1999 Ranger Rover P38 4.0 V8

Alright time for an update.. The exhaust has been finished: Was quite the challenge to fit it as I found that those Britpart silencers didn't fit exactly right. Took some messing about to get it to fit and it stil isn't perfect. I then continued with some maintenance and refreshing works. I...

    P38A Head gasket advice needed

Alright, I replaced rocker cover gaskets and did a whole bunch of other works. Today was the time of filling with coolant again and then doing an oil flush. During warming up I managed to pour 6 L of coolant into the system. However when it got up to temperature it started boiling over. I was...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

I finally completed the top-side works for my little refresh project on my 1999 4l V8 p38. Car has been off the road for a couple of years and don't have any history on it past 2015. I replaced rocker cover seals and sealed off where an LPG system was fitted. In the process I also replaced...

P38A Radiator drain plug o-ring troubles

I'm having trouble with my radiator drain plug. Concerns my '99 4l v8 p38, bosch engine. O-ring was squeezing out and thus leaking a bit. Had to drain everything to replace rocker cover gaskets and replace the coolant itself so as the old o-ring was mangled I fit a new one. When tightening the...

P38A Cavity beneath Bosch V8 lower intake?

Well I discovered that the valley is indeed open, at least at the frond end. Just take the radiator fan off and you can stick a magnet in there. The bolt was easily retrieved this way! And good thing that I did because if it would have come out at the front end it would have fallen into the...

P38A Cavity beneath Bosch V8 lower intake?

Thanks guys! Yeah same, can't stand the idea of it rattling around in there but was hoping the valley was open at the back end. Will try the magnet trick, if not I'll have to take the manifold off which will also allow me to unbodge the LPG lines bodge :D

P38A Cavity beneath Bosch V8 lower intake?

So the bolt rattling around in there will cause no issue? I put a dab of silicone sealant on those bolts so should be airtight! I only think the connections at the other end are not airtight anymore. Hoses can turn on the hose nipples in the manifold, so think the clamps at that end may not be...

P38A Cavity beneath Bosch V8 lower intake?

Hi, so I did a stupid thin today on my 1999 P38 with the 4L Bosch V8. I dropped a boot through one of the holes in the lower intake manifold: They just seem to be drainage holes for water? What is beneath this lower intake manifold piece, just an open cavity? Basically, how bad is dropping a...

    P38A Fuel flap switch AMR3388 vs YUG102490

Yes indeed, same rules here in Belgium! I'll first try to source a scrapper locally, don't want to pay VAT on 2nd hand things..

    P38A Fuel flap switch AMR3388 vs YUG102490

That may explain why LR discontinued one of the two. I guess I will order one an see what happens.

    P38A Thor engine fuel filter?

Yes but the question is: what is the size of the pores when new?

    P38A Thor engine fuel filter?

Thanks guys! My concern is not that it would fail. My concern is that the filter sock that is on the fuel pump does not filter sufficiently fine particles, which may be okay with a new car but not after 20 years. Because all cars have this kind of pre-filter just to protect the pump, but then...

    P38A Fuel flap switch AMR3388 vs YUG102490

I'm a bit lost. I have a 1999 p38 2.5 dse with a broken fuel flap switch. VIN starts with XA. I find a lot of switches with part number AMR3388 which is up until and including VIN to WA. From XA they say I need part YUG102490 which is discontinued and i can't find anywhere. Am I fine to use...
