    Defender roof console

But the good thing is.. roof consoles can be custom made :D so it can be as big as you like :D the raptor dash is £85... I'll probably sell a roof console for £120... so for an extra 35 I think its best to get all the advantages of the roof console :D :D not trying to get into a marketing...

    Defender roof console

The raptor consoles are ok but.. you have to cut the dash to fit the radio and I think you even have to cut the dash to fit the console? with a roof console its four holes and its there, all you have to do is cut the roof lining, even easier if you dont have roof lining. Plus.... if you fit...

    Defender roof console

On that pic, the console wasnt in its place, as the middle strut is still there, and the console goes a little higher, I used the sun visor to hold it so it wouldnt fall down. here's a pic with it in its final place.

rear view mirror its fine, as the console is cut to allow it to fit back in.. sun visors.... never thought of it! bollocks... hope its not too wide, or else the sun visors will only be going up as high as where the console is! right, just checked some pics, the sun visors almost touch...

temp gauge shows max under load.

its a good question.. how do you identify if you have the right temp sensor already fitted though? My 90 has a disco 200 engine in it..... how do I know if the previous owner didnt fit one of these sensors before?

    Defender roof console

if i put a bar across the top you wont be able to screw it in, no room for screw driver.... well, maybe there is on this one i made, but if i get to make more, i'll make it smaller as i think there's too much space between the radio/cb and the top

    Defender roof console

That's a good point. My idea was not too have any screws at the bottom of the shelf, but i think its something I'll have to have. I've noticed my radio has to threaded holes at the bottom so I can screw it to the bottom shelf. and as you say, use the CB mount the same way, thread lock the side...

    Defender roof console

ho yeh, i knew the stuff, had some of it sometime ago... quite thick as you say, need to find something around 2mm or so.... I have some office floor tiles, they are like rubber on one side and carpet on the other, squares of it, would that be any good? probbaly not i guess... Im getting to...

    Defender roof console

well, CBs do have their own mounts, but to be able to access the sides of the CB the console would have to be wider... which then i think it would be too much. by using the tabs anyone can have whatever they want in there and the tabs arent difficult to do... seemed to me to be the easiest...

    Defender roof console

todays update.... removed the strut off the middle, marked the front and fitted rivnuts, cant mark the back till I weld the cover on the top, so I'm sure it's all square.. It's going to be a pain to cut and fit the roof lining properly.... not looking forward to that. The shelf for the...

    Defender roof console

ohhh.. I like that LRjack! that would certainly make life easier to fix the units Beardy, yeh, they do have holes, i might weld some tabs to screw to it, but once the units are in, there isnt much space on the sides to put a screw driver in. and didnt want to drill the side of the console...

    Defender roof console

yep, I have one of those, but the back end of the radio would still be bouncing about i think.. and i would still be left with how to fix the cb... i know what you mean, so the console is not as wide? as it stand is 13" wide

    Defender roof console

    Defender roof console

That's a very good idea! also the other design I have in mind is not having that draw sticking out at the back, but for it to be flush with the sides. but yeh, those plates could have different configurations to accomodate different number of switches, or a light or something like that yep...

    Defender roof console

Not much done today as I was in the garage till midnight last night working on a mates bike. Today only cut the holes for the interior lights, had to bend some brackets to hold one of the lights, drilled the holes for the bottom plate and put some bolts through it...
