    johnnys series 3 resto project

Kind of sad that all the skills that built this country are now being lost, outsourced or replaced with massive multi-million pound automated lines controlled with computers. Been thinking of putting together a gas forge actually - plan was to use it to hammer out blades. I've always had a...

    johnnys series 3 resto project

My old man drove 109 out to India in the 60's. He cracked a brake drum in the arse end of no where. Found a forge. Guy took the old part and made a casting in the sand on the floor of his workshop. Took him a couple of tries, but got it in the end. Cost pennies and was still on the landie when...

This suggests to me that it's been off the road since 1978! Last date of liability, is when it was last liable for road tax, and does not indicate when it was first registered or built.

2.6 noise levels, mpg and top speeds?

We had a 109 hardtop 6 when I was a kid, learned to drive in it. Did 60mph easily without O/D. At 70 the doors flapped around a lot :D Can't remember mpg as I wasn't paying.

You'd have to shoot me first - this baby is mine! I've always wanted to take a car completely apart and put it back together again. Just hope I can remember where all the bits go.

Just bought a Series III 88"

I've really not been able to dedicate as much time as I'd like to this project. Still - I'm pretty pleased with how little corrosion there is under there so far:

Looking great there Johnny - wish I could dedicate the same amount of time and skill to my project. Agree on the suggestions to go back to the paint folks and have a friendly word though!

How big a job is it to take the body off?

An afternoon? You must be some kind of machine. It's hard work getting on the nut and the bolt at the same time. Great when they snap. I'm grinding off half of them and still have a long way to go. Thinking of investing in air tools. I think an impact wrench might shear the bolts nice...

I prefer silicone, but any grease will do the job

    Battery not holding a charge

I put grease on electrical contacts routinely. Grease keeps water out and stops corrosion, and there is always enough metal on metal contact to keep the circuit open.
