    TD4 vs Mercedes ML

I need an auto due to worn out knees! Trouble is that the cars I can afford are all in the 100k mile bracket; although I reckon I could change a gearbox if necessary!

    TD4 vs Mercedes ML

Hindsight is a wonderful thing! Last year I sold my FL1 1.8 and bought a Mercedes ML! It seemed a good idea at the time but turned out to be one hell of a mistake! The build quality is not dissimilar to a 70's Morris Marina and it's been to the garage on numerous occasions, costing hundreds of...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Err...sold it! Bloke bought it for his Mum!

    Rear wheel bearing

Is it worth getting them both done at the same time?

    Finally gone "off-road"!

I have had several Discoverys in the past so I'm quite familiar with the lanes around the Salisbury area! However, driving the Freebie with its lower ground clearance is more of a challenge and I don't want to damage it! Seeing the vids on YouTube gives me some hope though, virtually standard...

    Finally gone "off-road"!

I'm hoping not to damage it! I might be tempted with some new tyres though! What are the green-lanes like near you? Gravel track or more akin to a ploughed field?

loss of power and engine cut out 1.8 petrol freelander

When the CPS went in my car, it just cut out, no stuttering etc. i had to wait about 30 minutes and then it would start without any problems! Temperature gauge would still show normal temp when I restarted! A new CPS was installed and I haven't had this problem reoccurr again! However, the...

loss of power and engine cut out 1.8 petrol freelander

As mentioned, more of an electrical problem than a fuel one! If the car is stopped, then everything cools down and works fine! Waiting for the AA to turn up would give it plenty of time to cool!

    Finally gone "off-road"!

I have finally taken my Freelander off the tarmac; however, most of the tracks on Salisbury Plain are now all-weather surfaces and you could drive any car along them! There were one or two muddy tracks that were rather more challenging which were made worse cos I was following a convoy of...

    Freelander 1.8 Serengeti 3dr 03-plate

Can you buy an 03 Discovery for what you would spend on an 03 Freelander? I'm sure that you wouldn't be able to! With a 1.8, check to see if the head gasket has been replaced; I think I get about 25 mpg out of mine but am not really sure! Insurance is cheap for me but I'm coming up to me half...

    clutch probs plz help

Take the air filter box off and follow the tubing from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder to see if it is leaking! If there is a problem at the clutch pedal, the pedal normally stays up due to the spring, but as mentioned above, if something has broken, it may be holding the pedal down...

    Clutch biting point

I changed the fluidic system on me FL (costs about £90) and although the biting point is still a bit low, the gear change is much improved. The old slave cylinder rod was rusty and had a leak!

    mod info for water

Where would be the best place to go through the inner wing when fitting a snorkel? On my 05 1.8, it would involve a lot of work; there is so much stuff in the way! However, if the battery was fitted elsewhere, it may just work!

    Power steering fluid

What colour should it be? I was doing my weekly check around the car and the reservoir is on the MIN mark. Looking at the fluid, it's a brown colour; I am more used to seeing it in a shade of cherry red! Should I renew the fluid or not! It's an 05 1.8 with 73k on the clock!

    Noisy or Not!!!?

The mechanic did say viscous bearing or actual VCU! Bearings are indeed around the £80-90 mark and are easy enough to fit! It might be an idea to remove rear propshaft and go for a quick drive! If the noise has gone, then at least you have identified the area of concern!

    2" lift kit now fitted

It does look good! I might even try it myself!

New disc and pad swap, cant move wheel!

I'm not too sure but I thought it was only the later 03-06 facelift models that had vented disks and that the older cars had solid ones!

    Very handy!

Freelander won't start at all! Help please.

As OP mentioned, this may be an alternator problem! I had a very similar problem with my first FL! The white connector that should click into the alternator was full of gunk and didn't go in properly. It took a while to sort out cos it is virtually impossible to reach it without taking the...
