Getting to the point of gving up!

Cheers Fanatic, all sensors are genuine. As for ECU testing that's how we ended up replacing it, in an an attempt to cure the problem it was sent for testing and possible repair and never seen again! It was an upgrade from 4 to 4.6 but I doubt it's the learning as for the first 1200 miles it...

Getting to the point of gving up!

Well coming to the end of my tether with this motor now. Despite an exhaustive session on Testbook, a complete wire by wire test of the engine loom and all the sensors no faults can be found! For those not familiar with the problems, we fitted a recon. 4.6 back in October, did about 1,200...

    Sluggish disco.........not any more!

Not entirely no but as you are starting out at a factory base of about 110bhp and 0-60 in 16-17secs and all you are doing is increasing the power output then it's still going to take a lot more horses to turn it into a sub 11sec V8 eater than I beleive this mod could possibly produce.

    Sluggish disco.........not any more!

Having done my b-in-ls 300tdi yes this makes an awful lot of difference but V8 eater :hysterically_laughi You need to make up 30plus bhp just to match a 3.5 V8, 70bhp to get into 3.9/4.0 territory. My b-in-ls might be gettin close to TD5 performance but V8....... not in a million years.

Did land rover revise the V8 around 2000

LR stopped manufacturing the 4.6 in 2002 and used the remaining stock in NAS spec DIIs and as far as I am aware they never altered the block from introduction in 1996, so I would say you have a bog std 4.6 block.

    LPG Conversion, any thoughts ??

But then in all likelyhood he is only getting 16mpg on petrol. My 4 litre would on a run do 17ish on petrol and 16ish on gas and that was at 60mph. If your motor ran gas then on a run you would probably get 20mpg.

    LPG Conversion, any thoughts ??

Yes it does effect performance, in normal use you won't notice it though.

EGR removal do I tell insurance co ?

Yes the Association of British Insurers advise that ANY change from the factory specification of the vehicle is a notifiable item, unless your insurance company specifically advise otherwise, this includes dealer fitted options and non-performance enhancing upgrades and mods.

    LPG Conversion, any thoughts ??

They say up to 15% but I find to be much less, more like 7-8% which means you can get the cost equivalent of 29mpg if you don't keep flooring the loud pedal.

    LPG Conversion, any thoughts ??

Depends on your interpretation of V8 performance it's a 2.5 ton brick, it's hardly going win the traffic light grand prix. That said as std its 3.5sec or so faster than a TD5 although a chipped TD5 will run one fairly close. No matter what you do though a TD5 ain't a V8 and will never sound as...

Looks like some ones selling a knackered V8?

Well the only mention of paint I can find in direct reference to Rv V8 is on the RPI website and it is a following warning, and then shows pictures of an orange block with paint running down inside. Which seems to suggest it's OK to paint.

Looks like some ones selling a knackered V8?

Pretty certain some chevy ali blocks came out the factory painted orange, so perhaps it depends on the paint or it doesn't make much difference.

    What a difference a re-map makes!

Failing to notify your insurers of any modifications that differ from the factory specifications can invalidate your insurance, this even applies to dealer fit options or retro fitting things like the rear seats to a five seater or changing from air to springs, unless the modification is on any...

    4.6 conversion problems

Easier said than done, local LR independent says he only really does tractors, nearest dealership is 40 miles away and not interested so bit short of options to be honest. Some data from today, do all these readings look OK? Also find a misfire code showing No4.

To sell or not to to sell, that is the question

They come in 4wd versions as well as 2 and with sensible tyres on they do fine on the snow/mud, we had one when the OH's X trial was in the garage.
